Re: Ford 8BA engine placement

When I installed a T5 trans in my F1 I had to build a new rear cross member. I set my engine at 3 degrees which let the carb sit level. The rear end was factory 3 degrees up. The drive shaft is 7...

Re: 49 f1 PU T5

My 48 F1 was a 3 speed. Had to cut the center out of the rear cross member and brace it back to the new cross member I fabricated as the brake and clutch pedals mount to the original cross member....

Re: What about New Starter Bendix?

After switching to 12 volts I had a lot of trouble breaking Bendix springs. Switched to the new style four years ago and haven't had any problems. If you stay with 6 volts the old style should work...

Re: Oldest daily driver... with highway speeds

I did the Autozone test. It said "Oxygen Sensor". Turned out to be thermostat. Point is I didn't need a Auto Zone test on my '48. Temp gage did the "test" for me. Temp gage read fine on the car in...

Re: Oldest daily driver... with highway speeds

I have one of the new "wonder" cars. Got an engine warning light. (Don't have one of those on my '48.) Took it in as I have no way of checking it. They said they had to put it on their computer to...

Re: Old cars

Tried to watch it three times and gave up. Decided it was for people with more money than brains.

Re: Question About 8BA Truck Oil Pans

I believe you will find you'll need a rear sump pan for an F1. The center sump pan was used on cars with independent suspension and it will hit the front axle on a F1. I had a lot of rear seal...

Re: 49 Merc Icon Derelict

Unique way to ruin a beautiful car. Had a '49 Merc when I was in high school in 1958. I still miss it. Traded it for a '55 Cheeeby in 1960. Bad mistake. 150 - 200 miles? hope it has a bicycle rack on...

Re: Will a 302 bolt up to a 51 Merc 3sp od trans?

If you think rebuilding a flathead is complicated wait until you do an engine swap. But it's your vehicle so do what you want. You won't be happy with it if you don't.

Re: Clutch chatter

When I installed the T5 in my F1 I replaced the motor mounts, clutch disk, pressure plate and had the flywheel machined. Had clutch chatter. Instead of tearing it down again decided to drive it and...

Re: 8ba weak stomach

Been running my 8BA with stock water pumps, fan shroud, 160 therms, coolant recovery tank and no pressure since 1950 without a single problem. On 80 degree and less days it runs at 160. 90 plus days...

Re: keep my 6 or swap in a 8

Yep. The Hudson Hornet for a little while. 308 cu. in. and factory dual carbs. A lot of motor in those days.

Re: keep my 6 or swap in a 8

I did it over 30 years ago so I don't remember. Back then these old cars and trucks were just "old" and not very valuable. Most of the parts were found here and there. I gave $75 for the T5 and...

Re: keep my 6 or swap in a 8

My F1 had a 6 in it when I got it. Swapped in a V8 and T5. V8 radiator, throttle linkage, air dam at the front of the hood and the wiring was simple. What a difference! It all depends on what you...

Re: Oil Dip Stick and tube 8BA or 8RT ??

I've had to fabricate a number of dipsticks after engine conversions. This method works great. My 8RT requires 5 qts.

Re: 50 Coupe OEM Ammeter Question

As I recall that wire is the charging wire from the generator. Be sure and run big enough wire. Any non shielded wire will work.

Re: 200 degrees in one mile ?

Same here. When I rebuilt a 302 Ford and installed it in my Bronco II I had the same problem. In a little over 500 miles it settled down to normal. Eight years and still going strong.

Re: Push'n Rope

The gasket sets come with two different type seals. The white Teflon and a black seal. After a couple of problems with the Teflon ones I found Fel-Pro's site and they say not to soak the Teflon type...
