The pin you you are talking about is where it belongs. The shifter does not rotate. I have dropped one into a trans about 45 years ago. Drained the fluid and poured large amounts of cleaning...

I have a 39 trans with LZ gears. I put in new synchros and thrust washers. I think the box is fine. I did not do anything to the shifter tower. Just put on the best feeling one that I had.

Will not look forward to taking that grill apart, getting it stripped then putting it all back together. And the lack of plating plants is another problem

Not sure what if anything is required. I kind of like alloy steel black oxide allen head bolts with SAE flat washer. Not close to stock but it looks good with aluminum intake.

What is the latest Ford transmission that you can take the insides out of and slip them into a 1939 transmission? That is without modifications.
