Re: Fuse blows even when key off

Most likely it has a bad repro brake switch that grounds out. Disconnect both brake switch wires then connect an ohm meter from each terminal to ground and try the switch both off and on to see if...

Re: 3.27 ring and pinion, anyone using one ?

I put 3.27 gears and a 5.5 head in my friend's 31 pickup and it goes great.
I'm looking forward to putting 3.27 gears and 5.5 head in my Model A also.

Re: Short circuit issues. Where to start

If the horn is getting hot, then it's likely shorted to ground.
What does the ammeter read with the key off?

Re: Horn Rod replacement

Some horn cover screws are too long, or threaded in to far, and hit the brush holder, which can ground out the horn.

Re: Rear brake drum hub difference

The parking brake band spring on the lower bracket is in the wrong hole.
It should be in the outside hole, as the upper spring is.

Re: Stupid Question: what kind of tire gauge are you using

Russ, look on Ebay for a Milton gauge.
I try to buy all Milton air fittings, but still have some poor quality China fittings also.
As mentioned, some of the China air gauges don't work.

Re: '28 Phaeton Windshield Frame

My 9-27-28 Phaeton doesn't have them either, and I won't drill holes to install any.

Re: Emergency Brake Cross Shaft Arms

If the rear of the frame is to the left in the picture, then it's correct.

Re: 700 RPM's ??

As the battery ages, or if it's too small, it is less able to control the generator output. When I first bought my 29 Tudor, the 6 volt battery was shot, so I jump started the car on a 12 volt and...

Re: Timing problem on B

Right, plus the B is timed 10* BTDC, not on TDC as the Model A is.

Re: Road trip - past two non model A trucks

I had a 60's Ford pickup, but couldn't afford the 6 miles per gallon it gave me, so I sold it after just 2 months of ownership.

Re: 29 Clutch Problem

When you have a transmission with no synchronizers, then double clutching is common for upshifting and downshifting.
Otherwise you can learn the exact time to pause between shifts to avoid grinding...

Re: 700 RPM's ??

All wire harness terminals should be soldered, and not just crimped.
At 500 engine RPM the generator is running 750 RPM and my battery is being charged.

Re: 1929 Coupe tail light bracket grounding

I wouldn't. The mounting hardware has always provided a good ground for me.

Re: Loosening front spring bracket . . .

Only the 30-1 has long radiator holes to be able to move the radiator sideways a bit. The 29-9 has a round hole, so no side movement. As mentioned, maybe the engine isn't centered in the front. ...

Re: What size are my pistons

Measure the taper as Kurt said, then post your findings before deciding how to proceed.
It may need to be bored to the next oversize.
If the taper is OK, then use a long thin feeler gauge to...

Re: shaking front end

The first thing I'd do is make sure the toe-in is 1/16" and make sure the front wheel bearings aren't too loose. My temporary front axle is worn very sloppy, but I've never had the death wobble.

Re: Radiator Emblem

I made a special tool, which is just a brass pipe with a bevel cut into the pushing end, so the pressure is applied to only the very outer edge of the retainer.

Re: Victorias

The Vicky is also my least favorite body style, and I will admit it took me a while to accept my 31 slant Town Sedan with no visor. I guess the lack of wood helps make up for no outside visor. The...

Re: T-5 5 speed trans VS Mitchell overdrive

I'd be happy with an overdrive also, and intended to install one, but have decided to go with the 3.27 ring and pinion instead. It will look totally stock and give more speed, but I mainly want to...

Re: Where to start?

This made it harder to steal the car.
If you just switch the hot wire, then someone could jump the starter terminal to the coil and drive away.

Re: Radiator Emblem

Don't try to remove it without removing the shell first, or it will likely break.

Be sure the rounded end on the key faces the axle and is facing the differential.

Re: About half Model A related

I installed tubes in my lawn tractor because the tires always had a slow bead leak. I still have the scar on my left hand from the job, and it wasn't easy. Jack up the one wheel and lock it if you...

Re: distrbuter screw

They often stick in the cam, and may not be noticed.
