Re: axle key

We had to fire a mechanic decades ago for a similar reason. Its not the only reason he got fired, he insisted on changing valve cover gaskets, carburetors, etc. with his air gun. He would pick the...

Re: 1930 Tudor - Rear Parking Light - whats this??

Yep, thats a light switch. The originals are good, the repro's are not. They to get full of oil/grease. Its a pretty basic simple thing.

A wiring diagram would be helpful and should be to be found...

Re: Ignition System Question

My suspicion is that the wide plug probably caused the mis-fires and would not hurt the coil.

It does appear that some fellas have had bad luck with these coils lately. I've had good luck with...

Re: oil lube circuit

Oil is pumped from base into valve chamber. Gravity takes over from there. Oil flowing into drip tray is picked up by the con rod dippers. Simple/ basic.

Re: new battery goin dead

Have you checked for a draw ?

If you have a draw then its either a bad ignition switch or generator cut-out.

If there is no draw then it seems like you have a bad battery.

You really...

Re: new battery goin dead

OK, but why not find and fix the draw. Unless you're using an alternator and thats what drawing.

Re: new battery goin dead

To check for the battery draw, it really makes no difference whether the test light is connected between the positive or negative leads. It'll still light the light if the draw is there.

And if...

Re: Bent timing pin

Well, I guess that would make sense. I type this as I shake my head. But, I've pried on things I shouldn't have.

Re: Bent timing pin

Are you talking about the actual timing pin or the distributor locating pin ?

Its surprising either would be bent. But it just goes to show that people can do about anything when they put their...

Re: I知 wondering if my coil is going bad

I didn't think we were aware the points had been around for awhile.

Maybe something has 'slipped' or maybe the points are just poor quality.

Vaseline has been used for decades, its been a...

Re: I知 wondering if my coil is going bad

The cam and rubbing block just need to get used to each other. They'll wear into each other after awhile.

Re: I知 wondering if my coil is going bad

The quality of points today varies greatly, the expensive ones are usually the best. The rubbing block wears quite quickly at first. The lube needs to get between the cam lobe and rubbing block. The...

Re: I知 wondering if my coil is going bad

It probably didn't slip, it probably wore. It depends on the quality of the points and whether the block was lubed. Greasing it correctly is very important.

Re: Gas cap 30/31 VENTED ??

Is the engine running properly ?

A new cap should be vented correctly. But look at the underside, remove the gasket and look at the vent hole[s].

Re: Timing or ?

Remove the sparklers and squirt in some oil. Turn the engine over a few times. Squirt in some more oil and let it sit overnight. If that doesn't do it then you may have to remove the side cover and...

Re: 2 tooth adjustment

Service bulletins, as said.

4th adjustment is often not needed.

They are pretty simple once you start doing it. All adjustments can be made while box is in the car.

Re: Rear axle ratio and car speed

Our speedo's are notorious for being 'way out of whack'. So you'll never know. 3:54 should give about 4mph more than the 3:78 at the same engine speed. The way I check my actual speed is to compare...
