Well, I guess that even Ford felt it was foolish or why would they eliminate the windage tray in the '52 and '53 Mercury 4 inch stroke flathead?

Unless you run the oil thru a 3 micron oil filter (as previously stated) the bad stuff goes right thru the cheese cloth and right back to where it came from,virtually unchanged.
To me a waste of...

Ford most likely discontinued the use of cast brake shoes for a good reason, i.e., the many areas where cracks can develop.

I would not use them.

That is the VIN/ serial number, not the production number.
