Re: 1950 F3 Door window bottom rail

The track is shorter than the glass. Check the other side for comparison. You want to set the glass so it overhangs the track 1/4" on the front/leading edge.

I've used silicone caulk to set the...

Re: 49 F1 Clutch problem

Guys, he didn't say "stuck clutch"

The clutch actuating rod has a threaded clevis on the end where it attaches to the clutch pedal lever.
Pull the cotter pin and remove the connecting pin, turn...

Re: Where to find info on gearbox conversion?

V8Coopman - excellent description of the situation!

rotorwrench - also very helpful! I have one of those transmissions in an 86 F150 4x4 that has 360K+ on the clock. I've had it rebuilt twice in...

Re: What did I just buy ?

rotorwrench, F2s didn't use the D code until serial number 110,000. His is 102K so it should have been Y code. He found the F3 logo on the cab since he posted this so he should be all set.

Re: Date Stamp question on intake flat ??

It's impossible to say for sure.

It sounds like you have a late series flathead. They were produced 1948 (truck) thru 1953 (US) and 1954 (CAN)

Your heads are '52/'53 and the oil pan is for...

Re: 1948 Ford F1 Metal Bed Question

They're not rivets, they're spot welds that hold the floor pan in place. There are rivets in the corner of the box holding the sides and headwall together.
The wood underneath is like soft pine and...

Re: Ford truck identification

The rear axle is identical to the one I removed from my 48 F1. The 47/11 = the optional 4.27 gears. The 5 bolt wheels are also half-ton.

What makes it unclear is, Ford used a lot of truck parts...

Re: 8BA head studs leaking

I had that happen once when I flipped a gasket over by mistake. Starting over with a fresh head gasket solved the weeping around the bolts.

Re: New Guy With a Question

Howdy HD - I'm on the other side of the state.

Sounds like a great truck with family history - doubly cool.

Re: F-1 head gaskets

Sounds like you have it sorted out - good luck with it. I replaced a head gasket once and thought I paid enough attention, but I had a slight seep around one head bolt. Turns out the gasket was...

Re: F-1 head gaskets

Just make sure you're actually losing coolant that way. My 48 F1 will puke extra coolant out the overflow tube until it is just above the top of the tubes. 5 gal of coolant expands a bit. Once mine...

Re: 49 F-1 wheel cylinders

Good advice above.

To answer one of your questions, I swapped backing plates from my 48 F1 onto a '63 9" rear end like it was made for it. All bolt holes lined up.

Re: F4 steering box?

http://joblotauto.com/

steering box should be 7RC in the F1, bigger trucks used 7RT box. They're easier turn (better ratio) so some were swapped into pickups. Joblot automotive should be able to...

Re: Front motor mounts

Any chance one of the pumps is a Merc pump? The foot is higher by about 2". Could account for the width difference as well as the 2 cushion on one side. They were also wide belt like the truck...

Re: Fan belt for f-1 with shroud

It's easier and cheaper to slip a couple of oversized washers under the motormounts.

The rubber biscuits collapse/crush over time.

Re: Serial Number

Most are stamped on the top frame rail, passenger side US near the motormount x-member. Lightly stamped, you might have to scrub that area with steel wool and shine a light at a shallow angle to get...

Re: '48 F-1 Truck Wipers

I pulled the linkage apart on my 48 after discovering the same issue you have. For 10+ years as a daily driver in Montana I used only one wiper. From where we sit it is adequate to see most of the...

Re: starter.. need a new one

I guess it depends on what Marko means by "the starter died". All the smoke leaked out? or did the spring break and it just spins?

First case needs rebuilt, but more common is the bendix needs a...

Re: 1948 F2 (F1 the same) door window glass replacement

I've done several and think I did it different every time. The divider needs to be loosened and/or removed. There is a screw in the door channel at the top and nut/bolt inside the door.

I've had...
