Messages on a forum that belong on email

I wanted to report a thread which consisted of a message addressed to one individual and was of absolutely no interest to any one else. But, this doesn't seem to fall within the reasons for reporting...

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

One thing I forgot to mention- I used an aftermarket ring and pinion and had a hell of a time getting the pre-load right on the pinion. It would be loose, I would tighten up on the nut and the outer...

Re: Help: Reverse eye leaf spring problem 34 Ford

I just made up a spreader for reversed eye springs, mainly for an 'A' rear but I don't know how it would work for a spring not centered (front and back) over the axle.

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

Re: Q: 34 Diff: torque on housing/ pinion preload etc.

I redid a later banjo rear and the gaskets were giving me fits! They were a bit undersize on the ID and were tearing when I tried to get them over the raised lip on the face of the axle housings. I...

Re: Help: Reverse eye leaf spring problem 34 Ford

There was an article about this situation a couple of years back in one of the hot rod magazines at the time. The easiest way I can think of explaining it is that the ends of the leaves are not...

Emergency brake cables...

What diameter is the e-brake cable on cars with hydraulics? (All of my brake parts are in my trailer.) Can I cut the cable and braze a fitting onto the two halves? I'm working on my AV8 project and...

Re: Parasitic draw from Generator?

Trying to clean contacts with any kind of sand paper will leave an abrasive residue that will lead to problems. If you do anything like that, use a file. Point files used to be in every mechanic's...

Re: Parasitic draw from Generator?

There are three relays in the common voltage regulator. First one controls the voltage by opening the field coil circuit when the desired voltage is obtained. Second opens the field coil circuit if...

Re: 32 stock v8 tudor steering very hard

Steering wheel might prove to be a bear. As I recall, I drilled and tapped a pair of 5/16-18 holes at 180 from one another into the metal portion of the steering wheel hub. I was then able to use a...

Re: F1 steering in a Model A

Yesterday I got both the F1 and Model A boxes apart and cleaned up. Thanks all for your comment's and I've decided where I'm going. First off, the Tardel flange is three holes so it's not what I'm...

F1 steering in a Model A

I'm working with the Bishop-Tardel book and it's time to tackle the steering box modifications. Bishop-Tardel recommends cutting the flanges off both the Model A box and the F1 box and then welding...

Re: Windshield Glass Setting Tape

My Chevy had the driver's door window glass come out of the lower channel and I had trouble finding setting tape. I used two layers of Gorilla Tape and trimmed it with a utility knife. That's held...

Re: Spring spreader for reversed eyes

The area of the angle iron where it engages the spring eye is ground to about a 60 included angle to get good engagement. There are also two plates under the spring leaf that bolt to the angle iron....

Spring spreader for reversed eyes

I made up a spring spreader for use with reversed eye springs, particularly for a Model A rear. I used two lengths of 3/4 pipe and 3/4 threaded rod, both welded to a pair of 1-1/2" angle iron. I made...

Re: More banjo questions for the gurus

I've done two banjos so far and one thing I seem to have found out is that if the gasket ID is tight on the lip of the axle housings, put a few alignment pins in the banjo and shellac the gasket(s)...

Re: The Terry Burtz 5 main bearing engine blocks are back on track.

Now that this concept seems to be nearing availability, how many of you are scheming to build a much higher horsepower version? What are you considering?

Re: Double bearing pinion sleeve imstall

I put an aftermarket ring and pinion in a '48 rear. Only problem I had and I found out afterwards is that the two bearings on the pinion go on differently. The first should be, and it was, a nice...
