Re: Taking the plunge into Model A ownership!

Before even tuning over the motor.
Drain/clean gas tank (do not want to suck varnished gas/rust into the carb), flush/replace all fluids since oil/grease turns bad sitting for that length of time,...

Re: Spark Question

I had the same type plates as those in the pictures, also had issues. One issue was an occasionally miss under low RPM/high load, Ex: going up a hill from a stop. Had other strange issues at...

Re: OT- My Connection To The Model A Community

Welcome back, hope you are able to stay this time, and that the Barn does not cause another incident for you. I think it is true of any large group of people, there are going to be personality...

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

Use google maps to verify your speedometer is accurate. If the odometer off, your mileage would be off the same percentage. My A only gets 12-14 mpg, fresh motor standard head, 3.54 rear end, 16...

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

You got me good on that one - just now realized the reference was the movie with John Candy as Uncle Buck.:):D;) Great movie.

Re: Swirled Glass Shift Knobs

So does someone have an answer to the poster's question - were they available in the 30s? I don't klnow.

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

In my case I was not turning off off, coasting, and then back on. I would be driving, pull in somewhere, motor idling, and then turn off the ignition, split second later - boom. Was not turning the...

Re: When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

If I remember correctly there was an aftermarket kit at one time to put that on a VW. I remember seeing a few of them back in in the day.:)

Re: When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

Hotrodfil - Thanks for the pics. I like your cars. I like all types. But appreciate cars that look like they would in their day, not flashy, look cared for, and look like they are driven every day....

Re: Oil leaks from around oil pan

Another tip if dropping the pan, drain the oil and let it sit overnight draining before removing the pan. Less drippage from the block area while the pan is off.

Re: Anybody else quit Ebay because of fees and tax?

One of my pet peeves on sellers are those that set prices low, and hope you do not notice they make up for the low price by charging a higher shipping and handling cost. Only got caught on that...

Re: Oil leaks from around oil pan

The only other time I had a leak was my fault. First time I dropped the pan to service clean the oil pump screen, I used a new gasket set, and missed the instructions on not cutting the rope seal...

Re: Oil leaks from around oil pan

There are 4 oil pan bolts closest to the front of the car where the holes are not blind, go through to the motor oil. Perhaps try removing them and put sealant on the threads and reinstall. Maybe...

Re: Introducion

Hi Werner,
What does is antique key on the key ring used for?
What is the contraption on the right edge of your floorboard? Metal arm with an egg shaped end which is notched.

Re: When is a "Model A" no longer a "Model A"

They may not be a Henry Model A anymore, but imagine they are titled and registered as a Model A. So a point can be made for advertising they are a Model A?

Re: Compression Test Results

Let us know what you find, maybe you will be lucky and a valve job/head gasket replacement will be good enough. If you do not have them, consider consider adjustable lifters. Compression not...

Re: Backfire in overrun mode (load change)

Do you have a different known good carb you could swap in? Another cause of running lean is a worn throttle plate shaft/bushing. The quickest way to troubleshoot carb issues is trying another carb....

Re: 1930 Sport Coupe 11 MPG, backfire when turned off

I had this exact issue. A split second after switching the ignition switch off, would get a loud backfire through the exhaust, loud like a shotgun. Had just gotten the truck back from a repair...

Re: Backfire in overrun mode (load change)

I am not familiar with "turbo brawl", so was probably off on a tangent anyways. If it is more of a whistling, or air type sound, have heard that a carb worn throttle plate shaft
is a cause. If am...

Re: Backfire in overrun mode (load change)

I was just trying to throw some easy things at you, hoping that it would get the discussion started. Personally even if testing does not make sense, I like to try it anyway, then I can know/prove it...

Re: Engine Misfire Knock

Sticky valve? Add Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas, perhaps in the oil. With the motor running some use a misting bottle and spray into the carb intake, some spray into the intake manifold fitting...

Classtique sells kits, and provides installation advice/help on their kits, interior and top kits. Due to demand last I heard they had a hefty backlog of orders since Labarron Bonney closed.

Re: Backfire in overrun mode (load change)

Carb maybe running lean, try giving the GAV another 1/4 turn CCW, then another 1/4 turn CCW. I find that my Gav has to be set at 1/2 turn open, otherwise I get a little popping/cough when...
