Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Same for the '35-'36 Trucks. There's a grease seal in the rear brake drum only. The front spindles have and integral formed shape which serves to keep most of the wheel bearing grease in the front...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris,

You might want to consider media blasting the cap to remove the chrome finish. I've had good luck removing finishes with glass beads. With a bit of care it's possible to leave a bit of...

Chris,
The club forms and instructions are available on line at: https://www.earlyfordv8.org/Forms.cfm

Here are the rules for Rouge vehicles from the judging manual:...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

It was nice to meet fellow Fordbarner's and put faces to handles. Chris is most generous letting folks drive his truck. It was a meet highlight for me too.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris - It was great to see you and Cheryl at the GNM. Thanks again for letting me drive your truck! It was great fun and inspiration to get mine completed so I can return the favor. I posted a...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris,
I'd love the chance to drive your truck - thanks for offering.
I don't think you have to worry too much about the judging standards for your truck. It's likely to be the only '32 truck on...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris,
I'm looking forward to seeing your truck in Dearborn in about 4 weeks from now at the Grand National Meet. I'll try to see if I can spot the "upgrades" since Franklin, TN last year.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

One of my favorite memories from growing up in Massachusetts is boiling down maple syrup until it was really thick then drizzling a thin line of it on top of overnight fresh snow. Then quickly...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I think the gas needs to slosh around a bit to get the air moving in the tubes inside the tank. This would force some air up the tube to the gauge.

Not sure about the smoke on start-up. Maybe...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I like the way you kept the original patina on the map pocket, it fits with how you are keeping your truck.

Keep those old ratty panels. There probably aren't too many originals around to show...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris,
If you have the storage space, I recommend hanging onto the original panels. I had similar thoughts about the interior panels for my '35 truck and just never go around to tossing them in the...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Good deal. Thanks for letting me know.
I'll still investigate and see if I can replicate the old tank gasket material. Have a short length of rope on the way.

Chris - Did you re-use your original gas tank gasket?

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I saw Oakum as a possibility but if you read several web sites, eventually the way it works becomes clearer and it's really not the correct material. Oakum is fiber and water-reactive resin. Stuff...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

The hood lace is a good idea. Same material but is dimensionally smaller and doesn't have the tackiness of the gas tank gasket. The hood lace also has a depression in the center giving it an "M"...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I'm thinking the tar or resin helped keep the rope flat when it cured or cooled. My gasket was stuck on the floor pan and remains slightly tacky even now, so that's how I bet it was installed on the...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Your gas tank seal solution might work. I'm still going to get my original down and study it closely and let you know what I find out.

Meanwhile, on the wood blocks used to mount the body to the...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Chris, for all the detective work. Can't wait to be back on my feet and in the garage to see the parts of my tank like yours. Now, thanks to David, I will certainly re-use my original copper...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

Good luck with the washers. If you find a source, let me know as I might need to replace mine too.

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

thanks Chris. I'm frustrated sitting on my waiting for my ankle swelling to go down. I'm much more a hands on guy and not prone to being confined to being immobile but following orders

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

The nut for the gas level sender air line on the bottom of the tank should be the same for all Ford Trucks 1932-1936. Give me another day and I should be able to get into the garage and send you...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I have my gas tank gasket on a slab of cardboard high up on a shelf. I can't get up on a latter at the moment as I have an ailing ankle. It should clear up and when it does I'll get it down and...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

It should be possible to carefully and gently raise the cab up a 1/2" or so with a couple hydraulic jack and some wood supports to spread the load. Remove the bolts, slide out the old wood, clean...

Re: 1932 The Deuce, Dually, Dump Truck

I've looked for a suitable gasket material and haven't found an identical match to the original. Here's one possibility which has dimensions close enough and reasonable characteristics for the...
