I did two piece. The engine went in sweet with alignment studs in the bell and on a jack. All checks and shims in place. From engine back to the ujoint it got the full monty . New ring gear, clutch,...

I am doing it two parts with the guide studs after I pack the U joint. I am also 73 and I got the car in 1960.

My radius ball measured 1.479. I have been using the original style so maybe I will add the washer and see how the bolts tighten up.

Are you sure on 11/16? The books I have say 5/8", Les Andrews, vol 1, pg 1-148, the info sheet that came with the rebuild pressure plate, and the gauge to check them from Bratton's, all 5/8".

What is the spec diameter for the original ball? Be a good thing to know so you know what needs to be done, other than that you are guessing.

I run them with a hi output 6v alternator from nu-rex and new reflectors from Bratton's. The light output is as bright as sealed beams or better.

There is a tool made to turn the engine over using the ring gear. It was a long bar with a swinging curved hook.
