I once bought a box of hundreds, sold them for years at 1$ for 3, they worked, but if battery leaked a little acid on the post and it got corroded there's 2 places to corrode and they usually won't...

I use a simplified method--- take oil can, fill with atf, squirt on springs. Go for drive---- don't forget the oil hole in the hand crank bearing

The fiber gear will wear the crankshaft gear different than the aluminum gear,a worn crankshaft gear can chew a fiber gear and could have caused your gear failure
