Re: Help Identify Trim... 1946 coupe?

The ridged detail on the trim says it is '42 or '46. Trim was smooth in '47 & '48.

Re: What years are these from ???

Also, the wheel cylinders have different piston diameters for the forward shoe. This can be seen in the photo.

Re: Brake light pressure switch

Mechanical switches are much more reliable. Take a look at the '58 - '66 Corvette switch. Easy to mount and quite cheap

Re: Gearbox Question 1939 / 1940

The difference in the forks is not only the width of the opening but also the offset. The early fork will not function properly, even if it is opened up to fit over the synchro.

Re: Front Wheel Cylinders

Try Rock Auto. Look for 1946 Ford. Also your local NAPA may be able to get you these parts which are not made in China.

Re: Flywheel Interchangeability

You can use any '32 to '48 (except V8-60), but not the later 8BA type.

Re: 48-6044 Rod, engine radius purpose.

Re: Compressor oil

Most small air compressors use SAE 30 non-detergent oil. Special compressor oil is available. However, the old Sears vertical fin compressors recommended 10W-30 with API SF designation, but I would...

Re: 32 PU rear brake drum loose

There is likely a problem with the taper on the axle or in the hub. Use Prussian blue to determine the contact of the taper between hub and axle. There may be a burr preventing good contact. Do...

Re: Top Shift 48 Pickup 3 Speed Question

Merely unbolt the shifter and lift straight up to remove. Make a temporary cover to prevent anything from falling into the transmission. (Cereal box cardboard works well) To replace the shifter,...

Re: Ford ran 2/3 cars at the 1035 Indy 500?

The legend is that the engines in those race cars used a 2 x 2 intake manifold with the carbs mounted "backwards" due to the front wheel drive. The patterns for these manifolds were supposedly used...

Re: 40-41 Drums/Hubs with 46-48 Backing Plates

The rear drums are likely to rub on the backing plates when '39 - 48 hydraulic brakes are mounted on a Model A rear end. I do not like using the axle shims. Removing a bit from the back of the...
