Re: Maine Machine Shop to Replace wheel Bearing Races?

I can 'second' that measurement... Actually, the ones I have, measure about .125 wall thickness.
Mine came from C&G... Pretty sure that John Connley's come from the same place. I've had mine quite a...

Re: Timing procedure on 59AB?

Back to the 'timing-topic'..... I have a tendency to sympathize on the desire for 'professional' timing. Reason... My (limited) experience has been that MY cars have seemed to run better with a...

Re: Well...this ain't good

I worked at a dealership during the 50's and 60's. Many of the makes we carried, were european, with aluminum heads. And, yes, the customer had to leave the car overnight. Probably wouldn't fly well...

Re: Well...this ain't good

Another brand that I don't already see mentioned.... KD
I've used, with good results. Only problem is, when you later want to remove the plug, the insert will also come out.
And, I'm sure you...

Re: What happens to a transmission in for a rebuild

Speaking of.... I haven't heard a word about the 'Model A Lady' in a long time. I hope all is going well. We haven't forgotten you........

Re: W.C.F.B Carburetor

Regarding the 'bog' when you nail it in a turn.... I bought a new car in 56, which I still have. It came with a WCFB, and I have lived with that 'bog' for over 63 years. Yes, they bog when nailed in...

Re: 1934 brake shoe retracting spring. 3-1/2 inch

When I needed those springs (a few years ago), I found them in San Dimas (ca) at Bill & Mike McGrath's place, earlyfordstore.com 909-305-1955
Not sure this info is helpful, as it's pretty old.

Re: Dealing with the heirs on '32 parts ect.

This pretty much describes my situation... Wife of 55 years passed a few years ago. Wasn't supposed to happen that way. I planned my departure to be first. As noted, lots of dust around the house....

Re: Bring back auto mechanics class

Small world... A long time friend of mine was the one who originally started and set=up the auto shop at Santa Monica High. He and I worked at the same small garage in the 1950's, and he left our...

Re: Stock Valve Seat Pressure

I'm nit-pickin again, but we (collectively) seem to consistently mistake 'pressure' for 'force'.

Re: Stock Valve Seat Pressure

According to the data published in the Motor Manual, c.1943, for 1935-42 vehicles...
Here are the specs....
1935 through 1942, for all 'regular' V8's. (V860 is different)
Valve closed, 37-40 Lb at...

Broke down

Rode home on a burro. The truck was giving some trouble, running bad, then died. From reading this forum, I'm guessing condenser or coil. Maybe fuel pump. I've got some spares, a condenser from JC...

Re: How rare is a 39 Mercury?

In my opinion, the market is VERY soft. Too many of us old guys dying off, and the younger crowd largely doesn't care. The models that I follow, are heading south. And, when I check on something,...

Sheldon, that looks like my kind of car. I'd be a candidate.

Re: Swap a 59ab flathead on my 49 shoebox

DD, I tried to mate that adapter to a T5 that I had, and it's an 'almost' fit. The indexing ring was perfect. I would have had to mess with the holes a little, drill one larger, move one, and figure...

Re: Swap a 59ab flathead on my 49 shoebox

Like already posted, I wouldn't do it either, because of all the 'issues'. But, if he really wanted to go this way, I have the lower adapter shown in DD's post, and I will donate it to this cause....

Re: A 1934 Ford Columbia Brochure Found In A Ford Dealership

So, Mike, I'm curious.... When restoring one of your well-acknowledged,
high point, and I might add beautiful and fantastic, 39 or 40's, if it came to you with a Columbia (presumably somehow...

Re: Second Best Christmas present ever

I think all he means is that the chevy distributor has mech adv, as opposed to what the 8ba distr had. Sure, the chevy distr also has vac adv.

Re: 1934? Ballast Resistor - Troubleshooting

Not that this is any answer, however, there are old posts regarding the 'fix' for these old, original, resistors. And, I believe, based on age of the part, and likely corrosion at the ends, this is...

Re: Replacing rings on 1 piston on 8ba

If you have a broken piston on an engine with that few miles/time, I wouldn't be taking a chance on simply replacing ONE piston/rings. As a minimum, I'd likely pull the other 7, and inspect. Perhaps...
