Re: Generator Bearing?

Hey Moonshine,

Would you mind to give the name of the rebuild shop in Joplin, I would like to have that on hand, for a just in case?

Re: Frozen Distributor 351 Windsor (69)

I agree with ford3, sometimes setting point gap problems is in tightening down the set screw. I have had what I considered perfection then at the last second messed it up more than once. Now that...

Sal, paul2748

I took your advice bot a bender and some tubing from the local auto parts, took some time with the old line and it worked out great.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 56 Y-Block fuel line replacement

I find a lot of Ford 312, but not much for Mercury. Is there a difference? I did find this at Mac's for a ford

56 Y-Block fuel line replacement

It seems that I have messed up the aluminum fuel line from the fuel pump to the carburetor on a 1956 mercury 312 with a carter four barrel carb. I am not having any luck finding a pre formed line to...

I agree, if it is not a restore or fix up time it with the points and drive it.

Re: Frozen Distributor 351 Windsor (69)

Where are you with this Boss? In other words are you attempting to get it running, and then develop a punch list of what is needed to get it where you want it to be. If you consider this a keeper...

Re: Frozen Distributor 351 Windsor (69)

Wow, sounds like you have made great progress. You have obviously broken the grip that the two seized surfaces had on each other. Now the trick is just to get all surfaces lubricated. Moving the...

Re: Frozen Distributor 351 Windsor (69)

The acetone/ATF mixture, how did you mix it up and apply it ?

I had an old oil can one with a long neck, this helped me get to the base of the Distributor where it meets the manifold. There was...

Re: Frozen Distributor 351 Windsor (69)

Hey malloyjp I just got through the same issue with a 56 Montclair. It took weeks to free it up, and a lot of encouragement from this forum. Here is what worked for me I used a 50/50 mixture of...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Well, Y'sguy I wish I had better news. I was working on the gravity tank and caused myself a problem. First I twisted up the metal gas line, and I also bloke the plug that the gas line screws into....

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

I agree y’sguy, I was able to pull the other valve cover and make sure valves and rockers are all functioning. I think that making sure that she is pumping oil would be a great next move. I am tied...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Yea, I have a valve cover off again. I used the trick that y’sguy suggested for finding TDC, so pulling the other and checking the valves and push rods should be a snap.

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Hey, y’sguy I don’t have it running, it can be timed now. I am working on gas and vacuum lines now. I have not had a lot of time lately but I think the distributor thing has worked out, with some...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

OK, so I'm a little slow but I think I may get how distributor alignment works. When at TDC, it don't matter how you re-install the distributor as long as there is clearance for vacuum and room to...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Y'sguy I am with you, I want to get her back on the road bad. I do have a question on your post though.

Next Steps, yes I can turn the engine over and find TDC. But I have not checked to see if...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Finally it came loose, I have it spinning. It came loose with acitone and atf constant tapping and a pair of water pump plyers. I think I have lost one of the clips for the cap so this may run into...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Everything under the valve covers looked to be working well, and I am really glad to get the gaskets replaced. They were in bad shape, the distributor is still stuck tight. I did change to a 50/50...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

I believe I am with you y’sguy, Y-Blockhead, and Hot Rod Reverend I not running out to buy a distributor. Shoot at this point I don’t even have a hole to stick it in. I am going to keep it soaked...

Re: 56 Merc 312 Distributor

Wow, a lot of good information came in since I last checked this thread. Both the stuck valve and the timing chain and sprocket do make a lot of sense. Replacing valve cover gaskets is on the to-do...
