Re: Running on 3 1/2

Had the same problem with our 2 cylinder lawn mower this past summer. It was so bad it blew oil right out the exhaust. Tore it down and the oil rings looked worn out. I honed the cylinders and put...

Re: Babbit vs Inserts

A fellow club member ran 30,000 miles on an insert motor and it started to knock. The surface of the insert rod bearings failed.

Re: Confused

Check your gas flow into the carburetor, right to the float bowl. If restricted, symptoms you describe would occur.

Re: That "Opportunity Knocks" Engine

You could JB weld that crack, put the engine back together, and run it on a test stand to see if it still leaks. If it still leaks, then you won't be out all that much time.

Re: Install generator

You could put an undersized bolt or tapered punch just in one hole as a guide, the feed the half inch generator bolt in the other hole, remove the punch, and then feed the half inch bolt through the...

Re: Having Fun With it?

David: You have a rare light bar on your truck. Early 30 version with built in license plate mounts. These didn't hold up well, so Ford went back to the tubular style later in 1930. Also, take...

Re: Steps to install anti-rattle felt in steering column

With a roadster or Phaeton, you can pull the light switch rod all the way out of the steering column without having to remove the entire steering column. Just lower the top. You can't do this with a...

Re: Steps to install anti-rattle felt in steering column

If you are referring to the spark and throttle control rod anti rattle felts, that is a big job, and Les Andrews walks you through it, as stated above. Is the steering loose? If so, you might...

Measure between your windshield posts where the top attaches. Should be 44 inches.

Re: Interesting read in Hemmings about restoration costs.

I'm sure that I am reiterating what has been said, but many car people have no idea what goes into paint and restoration. It's not hours. It's months or even a year on one vehicle, but they think...

Re: Did the 31 cutout have Ford script

Per page 2-9 Judging standards. Looks like Ford script restored in Nov. 1930, and ran until end of production.

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

Engine # and photo of engine. Stamped block #does not match title #. The star is present, before and after, but faint. Color is more or less Ford engine green. Unfortunately, that's all I can...

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

Terry: You are right. Didn't notice the date. Must have been purchased in 59. I bought the car 20 years ago from an elderly seller who told me he restored it in 58, but was probably 59.

Re: Who Remembers Model "A" Parts in the Sears Catalog?

This Sears engine rebuild tag was on the firewall of our 30 roadster that was restored in 1958, so I assume this engine was purchased in 1958 from Sears. Notice that all the rebuild specs are...

Re: '28 Phaeton is reborn

Since you are at the bare frame stage, if you haven't already done so, stretch a string across both frame rails to check for straightness. Frame sag is common. Doors and hood will fit much better...

Re: Gear ratio

I installed a Mitchel 26% overdrive last summer in our Tudor and am very happy. Best of both worlds. Overdrive for country driving and standard drive around town. 3.78 rear end ratio. Stock engine...

Re: Used zenith carbs number one and 2

As always, value depends on condition. How rusty and cruddy? Are the internal passageways lugged? Does the throttle butterfly bushings leak air from wear? The earlier Zeniths had a brass GAV that...
