Re: Dual 48s on a 260 Merc v8 Jets and PV starting point

I wanna drive it, just occasionally be able to 'roll coal' like the cool kids... Oh, wait...

Re: Unique Flathead Jack Parts

I loved those catalogs too...
I heard all the negative rumors about Jack and i think I only bought a couple things from him over the years... But that was mostly because I could find things cheaper...

Dual 48s on a 260 Merc v8 Jets and PV starting point

I recently came into a few 48s and am thinking of running a hybridized pair on my 260 one a super Navarro intake...
What would be a good starting point for jets and power valves? I found 69 and 43s...

Re: Breaking free old frozen transmissions: Tricks?

Because it eats metal... But that wouldn't matter on that bolt and nut because it's so far gone anyway... Hence, why I suggested it...

It seemed like a better EXPERIMENT... Since simple water...

Re: Breaking free old frozen transmissions: Tricks?

Soaking that in water is just going to make a nice place for a fish to hide... I think I'd be more inclined to see what Molasses does to it. I mean, if you're thinking 2 months anyway.

That...

Breaking free old frozen transmissions: Tricks?

I have this 49 Merc transmission that I'd like to see what I can salvage from it... It didn't look bad on the outside but the inside is frozen with some combination of rust and old grease. It's...

Re: R10 overdrive compatibility

Nice... We're in City of Orange too, and we like it here.

Thanks for the info. I guess there's no real way to tell for sure until I can get everything apart and compare.

Re: R10 overdrive compatibility

I hear you, and that's what I figured... The Rear would be the weak link.

The plan there is a closed drive QC...

I built the chassis with a QC in mind and it would look funny without one. I...

R10 overdrive compatibility

I just picked up a bunch of overdrive parts, in my quest to have an overdrive, torque tube trans in my roadster behind my flathead, and am curious about the r10 tailhousing and compatibility across...

Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

This is something to think about actually. I'm going to take a closer look at the wires now and see if that may be part of the problem.

Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

No issue with the rings. The gaps were all right on and they slid right in with no problem. If anything, it kind of freaked me out how smooth it all went. So I double checked everything.

After...

Thumbs up Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

Well, I'm getting about 46 on the torque wrench after the initial 180 degrees or so to free it up from sitting over night. (It was up around 60lbs for that).

Higher than I thought but I'm going...

Re: Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

Thanks Ron. I should have been more clear on the starters... 12v neg ground, New 12v solenoid, 6v unrestored starters.

I'll try the torque wrench but I'd guess it's around 40-50 lbs at the most....

Newly assembled Flatty cranking force??

Help me just validate my assumption here...

I've got an assembled flathead that hasn't been run yet. I can turn it over with a breaker bar (plugs in), and cranked it with the plugs out with...

Never moving again.

Re: 8ba flywheel dowel pins: Run without?

Ok I got some pins... They seem like there’s only one way to install them, right?
Smaller end into the crank. Tap in till the step? Just making sure I have the right pins.

Re: 8ba flywheel dowel pins: Run without?

Ok, you got me... Are you saying it's absolutely ok to run without the pins, or it's absolutely worth it to install them in an assembled engine? :D
Would hammering them into the flange be Ok on the...

8ba flywheel dowel pins: Run without?

So I got a new aluminum flywheel and installed it.
I was vaguely curious about the 2 empty holes in the crank when I put it together, but didn't concern myself with it...
I just realized what they...

Honestly, I forgot about Skip... Or rather, I thought he wasn't doing pumps anymore, or I would have.

Re: New Arduns for SBC

Arduns were a really cool accessory for the flathead... Now it seems like the flathead is an afterthought in the face of the Ardun mystique.

I have to admit, I also find it a little confusing. ...
