Is this tube necessary on an 8ba? Did OEM engines have them? I bought 2 8ba engines to build. Neither one of them has the internal tube. I am confused.

if you don't expose the valve seats, how do you check to see if the ports/seats are leaking?

No. It is an active crack, discovered with a pressure test and soapy water.
I marked it with a Sharpie because it is very hard to see.

By the way, it is a very small leak. Takes over 2 hours to leak from 40 lbs to 5lbs.

That's how i found the crack in the exhaust port close to the manifold flange.

I found a semicircle crack about 1/4" to 5/8" in from the flange area of the center exhaust port where the exhaust manifold bolts on.

I tested at 40lbs.
had 20 lbs after 30 minutes
had 13 lbs after 60 minutes
had 9 lbs after 90 minutes
Do i have a problem?

I have some power valves with threads that are damaged slightly. They test good.

It's in a 1951 F1.
I am aware other factors can cause chattering. Such as faulty motor mounts and sloppy clutch linkage, glazed flywheel, disc, etc.

Pressure Plate Opinions

I need a 10" pressure plate for my flathead with a T5. Two possible sources are a new one from Speedway and having my old one rebuilt by Ft Wayne clutch. I have heard good and bad about both sources....

Mainly on newer 4WD pickups. Bumper is part of stiffness of frame. Might not apply to this era of vehicles.
The point is: don't rule out anything that is not correct.
