Re: valve cover paint

Back in the ol days, there was no hi-temp primer available to the public round here anyways. I just used regular grey automotive primer, then Hi-temp gloss black engine enamel on the rocker covers...

Re: y-block blow by..

This is a little off the subject, but why are we seeing Connecticut and Pennsylvania residents now converting their Y-blocks to PCV ??? Are the northeastern States laws now demanding emission...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

As far as the type of carb he has (2-bbl bug-sprayer carb), there were only two types and both were actually made by Holley.
The Ford EBU has no other identification than the ford oval on the...

Re: y-block blow by..

I also have that same repro oil filler cap they sell for the '50's Y-blocks with the foam filter inside. I did NOT like that foam filter. When it came time to clean it, I submerged the whole cap in a...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

If the main body of the carb has the FORD oval embossed on the side of the float chamber, it is probably an EBU which was used in all '54, 239 Y-blocks and some '55 cars with 272 Y-block and probably...

Re: y-block blow by..

I can't tell where your hose is connecting to in the block from that picture. What you should be trying to do is to ventilate the crankshaft.
Best way is to have openings at opposite ends of each...

Re: brake press. switch

I am using the Harley Davidson brake light switch on the car in my avatar, but I don't recall the plastic package having a part #. I got it at the counter of a bike shop here in town.
But other...

Re: 1956 T Bird Paint Question

Everything is supposed to be black enamel, including inner fender aprons. The only thing that is not black is the splash pan which should be Ford Argent silver enamel.

Re: 1955 ford Ranch Wagon door latch.

You can swap out a '55 door latch mechanism for a '56, as long as you use the '56 striker plate with it. The '56 cars had added safety features such as these door latches. The '55 and earlier models...

Re: 1955 ford Ranch Wagon door latch.

Actually, no they're not. The '55 Victoria hardtop and crown Vic have a deeper housing and probably wont fit the sedan doors. But all the '55 sedan door latch mechanisms are same. Front door latches...

Re: Best distributor for '56 T Bird 312 ?

The '57 thru '59 Y-block car distributor is a direct bolt-in, but they do not have the tach cable hookup on them.
'57 and later used different points, condenser, rotor and distributor cap than the...

Re: Radial Tire Size for 55/56 Ford

I have P205-75R-15's on the front and P205-75R-15's on the back of this '55 Ford car in the avatar.
Reason being that the overall diameter of the 75 series is larger than the 70 series and the 75...

Re: Color of steering column and wheel on 55 Ford

All '55 Ford Fairlane models had steering column and wheel painted to match the interior color EXCEPT some had white and there may have been a few black, but only if car exterior was black or...

Re: Guuge panel ,restoration

Actually, I did browse the internet some time ago for "auto instrument restoration", and a long list popped up. But one of them I picked was a list of at least two dozen businesses that work in the...

Re: water valve vacuum line?

There were two different operating systems offered during the '50's. You have a vacuum operated water valve on the intake manifold connected to a vacuum hose to a bimetallic control unit located in...

Re: Gas Smell Inside

It's a good bet that the sending unit cork gasket is at fault, because there is really nothing besides that little round cover-plate separating the sender from the hole thru the floor for the sending...

Re: 1955/56 Ford Sedan Rear Window Defrost

Sometime prior to the year 2000, I installed a cheap, universal type window defroster for the rear window in my '55 Courier (which I had already converted to 12 volts). It was meant to mount on the...

Re: Y-block spark plug wire routing?

If you had a shop manual, it would show you many things that previous owners have left off that should be there, and the shop manual provides good illustrations and descriptions of how the parts are...

Re: Shop Manual

Tommy...I assumed you had a car.
The '55 F100 pickups had the big 239 Y-block carried over from 1954 cars in the late '54 model year. The early '54 cars and trucks had the little 239 Y-block that...

Re: Shop Manual

Ecklers (Mac's auto parts) lists the 1955 Ford car shop manual, #VB55 for $32.49. It is 344 pages. They also offer it on CD if you want to choose electronic form.
Most of the Repro parts suppliers...

Not that this might be related, but you mentioned you have the plugs gapped at .040. Shouldn't it be more like .035 ???

that same tool also is used to remove the ignition switch retainer and headlight switch retainer. Every '55/56 Ford owner should have one unless you want to bash up and mar the chrome plating with a...

Re: 6 volt to 12 Volt conversion

The '55 temp sending unit (6-volts) looks identical to the '56 unit (12-volts) and fits in the same pipe thread.
If you decide to change to all '56 sending units and matching '56 gauges, that is the...

Re: 55 272 Distributor

BTW, these Chinese made point sets they've been supplying the past few years are crap. The rubbing block material wears down fast, even if you apply good lube to the distrib cam, and I have had some...
