Re: Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

Looked at it this morning. Dry and no drips. Ball valve is easier to turn and moves as smooth as silk.

Celebrated with my wife on a 60 mile tour this afternoon. Temperature outside hit 90 degrees...

Re: Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

I ended up installing option one. I didn't have to shorten the fuel line between valve and firewall. And I positioned the valve with slightly shortened handle so it would not hit the metal channel...

Re: Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

I forgot about the Viton needle seal. Sounds like a great idea. I will try that as well.

I have been trying to stop the seepage ever since I got the car: have rebuilt the valve and carburetor....

Re: Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

I went to Home Depot yesterday and bought a couple of 1/4" ball valves and associated fittings. Fortunately the pipe fitting threads to the taper to the tank and the flare to the carburetor haven't...

Re: Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

The car originally sat for many years unused and the tank was a mess. I flushed it out pretty thoroughly and it is now pretty clean. I also the carburetor float valve leaks over as period of time. So...

Persistent Leaky Fuel Shutoff Valve

Over the past 5 years I have replaced the fuel shutoff valve with a new replacement once and rebuilt the valve twice. It is starting to leak again as I am getting a very slow drip on the garage...

Re: Solution for audio system in model A?

I guess I am the odd one out here. I like to drive my model A to better appreciate the period it was built. It seems to me odd that modern appliances such as music systems would be installed. Then...

Re: Coronavirus vs "A" Drive

As of April 2, the US death count is now over 6000 increasing now in hundreds of deaths per day. The pandemic is still accelerating.

COVID 19 is extremely contagious with a mortality rate of...

Re: License Plates

Can you explain further? Oregon began issuing plate in 1911.

Re: Installation of Rebuilt Original Ignition Switch

When I installed my ignition switch, I rotated the whole switch assembly as I screwed the cable to the distributor. After tightening, I then fastened the switch to the instrument panel. I did not...

Re: Ok, I've got a question for the Northerners....long.

It is tough with the long winters up north not driving my '29 Tudor. I have locked the Tudor away for the winter months only starting her monthly checking her out and letting her run until she is...

Re: Throttle shaft brass plug for zenith carbs

I cut a piece of oversized brass rod and used my lathe to make it fit.

1950 vs Modern Quaker State Oil Comparison

I came across this clip on YouTube this evening.

I am reassured in my belief that modern motor oil technology has progressed almost beyond comprehension in the last 70 years to benefit the...

Re: Rewiring . . . What would you do different?

I would not suggest using any wire less than 14 gauge on a 6 volt system. I rewired my car and used 10 gauge up to the fuse block, 12 gauge for headlights and wiper motor and 14 gauge elsewhere....

Re: Ever have your engine die at a stop light?

There are three air-fuel circuits in the Zenith: one for low speed, one high speed and one for idle. The idle circuit is most critical when stopping for if the air-fuel passage is restricted or the...

Re: 6V to 12V conversion

I do not know what the fuss is. The car was designed for six volts. American cars were 6 volts for decades with no problem. My car remains six volts and it runs fine.

A bigger concern is fuses. I...

Re: hidden radio ideas or just slighty out of sight. wood hide door?

I honestly do not see the point of putting a modern radio or any modern musical appliance in a Ford Model A.

On the other hand, if you want to remain strictly period, I like the solution offered...

Re: Turn Signals . . . Your Thoughts

I first tried driving my Ford using only hand signals. Today's drivers think you are waving.

The indicators are a must in today's traffic.

Re: Rear Axle Fastener Torque

I'd remove and replace the bolts with the proper Ford fasteners. It's not expensive and you can properly torque the bolts and know it's done right.

Re: Timing

Of course the rotor positioning dictates the firing order. The points opening dictates the absolute timing.

Re: Dies at idle... Help

Have you checked the carburetor "secret passage" between the idle screw and the carburetor throat? There is a small hole in the throat immediately above the throttle flap which is the idle passage. I...

Steering 7 Sector Bush Dimensions?

Hi All,

I would like to rebuild my 7 tooth steering box. I have a lathe and would like to experiment with eccentric bushes to minimize the sector to worm backlash.

I found a company on line...

Re: Ignition troubles

Should not make that much difference. The point should be do you measure battery voltage on both terminals when the points open? And we assume the points do open to the correct gap when the points...

Re: Zenith rebuilds

Ed, I rebuilt my carburetor and made your aforementioned checks including the throttle shafts and manifold gaskets. The car ran well but I could not get the idle to work.
Made sure the well was...
