Re: Model A Shift plate installation

If someone you know has a Bratton's catalog, there is a good diagram with exact measurements of where the clips should be located.

Re: Running engine with no dip stick?

Not a Model T but years ago the crankcase breather in my sons Chevy II got plugged up and crankcase pressure blew the dipstick out along with considerable oil. Quite a mess.

Re: 31 Roadster questions

Just be careful buying upper stanchions (stainless steel). There are 2 different lengths as the Deluxe cars had a lower top and shorter stanchions (and windshield) than the Standards. Lower...

Re: windshield folds too far

I have looked at other pictures and along with the one Bob C. sent me it appears that the windshield should lay horizontal when folded down and supported by the front edges of the lower stanchion...

Re: windshield folds too far

Bob C. Thanks for the pic. I can't tell for sure but it looks like the windshield should be horizontal when folded down. Mine certainly goes lower than that so maybe my stanchion supports need to be...

Re: windshield folds too far

OK. I have done some more investigating. No solution yet, but here is what I have come up with:
-I have a reproduction gas cap that may or may not be taller than the original. I don't have an...

Re: windshield folds too far

Not quite the same problem. Mine is a roadster and the problem occurs when I fold the windshield down into the "sporty" position where the whole assembly lays flat. I think it is supposed to have...

windshield folds too far

Progressing with the assembly of my 31 Roadster. Had new safety glass installed in my frame and put it on the car today. The problem I see is that when I fold the windshield down, the glass lays on...

Re: How is it.........

Don't have specific facts but many cars back in the 40's and 50's were worn out in 40,000 miles. I played with flat head Fords in the 50's and most of them had motors rebuilt one or more times by the...

Drive In Grease Fittings

I decided to change all of my grease fittings over to the modern style. There was a mix of original and modern on the car. I am having trouble with the new drive in fittings. I am trying to drive...

Re: Help diagnosing engine knock

The engine in my car was "rebuiltl" back in the 60's but never run. When I started running it recently, it seemed quite noisy to me. At first I suspected an oil pump problem but I removed the plug on...

Re: Anyone Ever Built or Even Seen, An Original type Greasing Pit?

My first experience with a pit was when I got my first car in the late 50's and went to our local country garage for service work and oil changes. The pit was dark and greasy with a slippery set of...

Re: 31 Standard Roadster Front Bow

Mike, Thanks for the great pictures and info. I just had some eye surgery today so won't get back to the garage until later in the week but will let you know how my measurements compare and will take...

31 Standard Roadster Front Bow

I am still trying to determine if the front bow, which looks like it is a replacement, is correct. The other 2 bows appear original. Except for the portion that fits into the front sockets of the top...

Top Frame "Filler"

What is best to use to replace the wood(?) in the corners of a 31 Standard Roadster top iron. Mine is gone completely so nothing to tack to on the corners

Re: Were "Suicde Doors" Really Dangerous?

I had a different experience with "suicide doors" with a 1949 Monarch (Canadian Mercury). There were 4 of us in the car and when I parked, we all started to exit. Unfortunately, my friend on the...

Re: Hand Operated Windshield Wiper

Have one on my 27 T which I think is the same as the early A's. No grommets or anything on it. Also, there is enough tension on the blade to keep it up out of the way as the T rattles along. Might...

Re: Body Mounts

Thanks very much guys! I believed that the frame and body that I have were original to each other but couldn't figure out why the bolts didn't both line up with the holes in the frame bracket. This...

Body Mounts

Were different frames/brackets used for different models? I have a 31 Roadster and the 2 bolts ahead of the door post do not both hit the frame bracket. The bracket has 2 holes but only one lines up...

Re: Original photos of 31 roadster seats and seat back?

Depends if the car is Std. or Deluxe. See the Judging Standards for details. Standards have 11 pipes in both front cushions. Deluxe 18. Rumble seats are 7 and 9 pleats in the standard and 13 and 15...

Re: Top Strap Brackets

Thanks Randy. That helps. Looks like a Deluxe but I assume the bracket location would be the same.

Re: Top Strap Brackets

OK. Thanks guys. Sounds like trial and error. I am not at the point of putting a top on let alone buying a boot so I may wait until that time. I just have the bare frame and I thought that there...
