Re: spark plug wire set

This week I put these MSD wires on my 8BA. They are 8mm spiral wound stainless wire rated at 500 ohms/ft, same as some of the low resistance Pertronix wires. I ordered mine last week for $30 and free...

Re: Stock 57 Fairlane 500

From my memory, at least some of the 4-barrel carbs back in the '50s-'60s had smaller primary bores/jets than the two barrel carbs offered. This would give better mileage in cruise and more power if...

Re: Distributor cap corrosion

I did swipe them with di-electric grease after the cleaning. The local NAPA store is going to have to get a brass terminal cap in.

Distributor cap corrosion

I have a converted Chevy distributor in my 8BA. It started missing some when I rev it a little so I looked for a problem. The distributor cap has aluminum terminals and 3 or 4 of them have that white...

Re: MOONSHINE Festival

The last time I went people were parked in the driving lanes in the parking area. I had to leave my car and go back and get it later on. It is another show that I stopped going to because they...

Re: The Hurst Mystery Shifter

There was a How-to article on the home made floor shifter in one of the hot rod mags back in the '50s. I made one and put it in my car. I don't remember having any problems with it.

Re: EAB Heads & their Piston Reliefs - Is this right?

I looks like they get progressively larger front to back. I don't know what is involved with machining heads, but maybe they weren't held level and took more from the front.

Re: Post 1948 Ford Gearbox - what year is this item?

If this was from a right hand drive car, the boss on the side opposite of the shift levers could be for the clutch equalizer bar that is on the shift plate in a left hand drive car. I don't know if...

Re: Should there be voltage across the high beam and low beam terminal?

Sounds normal to me. The side that is not energized is providing a ground path for the volt meter through the bulb from the energized side.

Re: Bosch blue coil in a v8 ??

Less cylinders have more dwell time, increasing heat, and need more resistance. Pertronix tech told me that increasing resistance might decrease performance of the unit in higher RPMs which isn't a...

Re: GLASS tint questions......

My car is a '55, but has aftermarket slightly tinted green glass. Just looking at the car, the tint isn't obvious. If you partially lower the door glass and compare it to the non-glassed area, the...

I pray God's comfort for those who knew and loved him. This is another call for us to remember and honor those who served and sacrificed to make our nation what it is (or was). Marcus followed Uncle...

Re: Trunk Operation?

I ground the head of the key to my '40 trunk so it would fit under the cylinder cover when closed.

Re: Was the Y-Block introduced in 1954 designed to replace previous flathead?

Back in the late '50s as a teenager I put a 239 from a '54 Victoria in my '37 coupe. I used an adaptor for the transmission, a Hurst motor mount that bolted the the front of the engine to stock motor...

Re: 1955 F100 239 Carb/Dist Upgrade

With respect, the method mentioned by Dave is only connecting the '57-up distributor to manifold vacuum and blocking the venturi vacuum, providing full manifold vacuum to the distributor at all...

Re: Starting the flathead with Chevy Distributor

I can think of two possibilities of no fire seeing that you have an arc when manually opening the points. (1) Are your points set to where the cam opens them? (2)The rotor is easy to overlook when...

Re: My 56 T-Bird is coming along nicely

I had a Vintage Air in-dash unit in my '40. I ran it over 20 years and never even had to recharge it. R134A and put out 40 degree air at the vent. I Think the reason for the good performance is the...

JC Allison and Miss American 3.14

This fellow came to my mind a few days ago, wondering what ever happened to him. He posted here last year about his rare '64 Galaxie 4-dr hardtop with a Police Interceptor 390 and overdrive. This is...

Re: Setting up Timing and Points with Chevy Dist

There are inexpensive "remote starter switches" that connect at the starter solenoid and solve the engine rotation issue. Yes, the distributor rotor should be pointed to the location of the #1 plug...

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

In stock form I remember that the rotator valve keepers utilized a shorter spring than the non-rotators, but i don't remember how much shorter. I might be enough that you don't need shims. Or maybe...
