Re: Airtex E8902

That's a Carter pump, I wonder if it is a return where someone sent in their Carter? Mac's sells it as a Carter: https://www.amazon.com/MACs-Auto-Parts-28-49431-Electric/dp/B071JHFCVS

That said, I...

Re: 1951 Ford F-100 pickup truck

Is something wrong with the 302? Have you driven it enough to know whether it's good? Not sure I'd throw it away, 302's are a good match to F-1's.

Re: 8BA compression issues

Are the battery cables #00 gauge, very heavy duty? Common cables carried in auto parts stores are #2 or #4, made for 12v systems, nowhere near up to the 600 amps a 6v car draws in cold weather.

Re: 8ba generator mount modifications

I have an EAB engine that came out of a Car (narrow belt) in my Truck. I had to have Car sheaves pressed onto the Truck WP's. I'm using a typical horseshoe alternator adapter.

One thing to...

Re: Correct Head torque

The Truck manual for 48-52 8BA/8RT says to go 65-70. FelPro says the same for their PermaTorque gaskets.

Re: 1951-1952 f1 hood

Actually hoods, cabs, and doors are shared by F1-F8. The big trucks often have better sheet metal because they are up out of the muck.

Re: Np435 on 8ba

I know of no non-stock manual trans that will fit in an F-1 without a great deal of butchery on the crossmember. From the back of the hogshead to the front of the crossmember is a little over 9...

Re: Still needing advise on 52 F1

Does your tank have a right-angle shutoff valve on the fuel connection? That is what is stock. On its inlet (part that screws into tank) there is a metal tube made out of brass screen that sticks up...

Re: Still needing advise on 52 F1

Make sure the valve at the tank is completely open! Have you ever cleaned the screen in the valve, that sticks up into the tank? Have you done anything with the fuel line to the pump? That is the...

Re: 52 F1 timing

On V8 trucks with the pin lined up it is at 2 deg BTDC.

Re: Oil pan baffels ?

None of the 8BA truck pans ever had baffles, and the only 8BA Car pan I've seen them in was the Merc pan. I have one of those on my truck.

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

Believe it or not, Ford actually made an adapter to do this for trucks. They also made a kit to convert from the flat-6's to the OHV 6's. The parts lists for the kits runs to 2 pages...

Re: 52 f1

I'd be surprised if it's the filter. I would think that even with a relatively clogged filter the carb bowl would be full at the point you stomp on the pedal. If it gradually lost steam, then I'd...

Re: Converting park lights to signal on 49 f1

The more common dual-filament bulbs (1154 in 6v) can end up right against the lens. Make sure you set the new sockets back enough to clear. There is some bulb that is noticeably shorter but I can't...

Re: T5 Shift Problems

T5's have little nylon pads on the shift forks, that have a habit of cracking and falling off. Is the throw noticeably longer in 1 - 2?

Re: Gauge wizards - need some help

The "can" or mounting tab on the Mustang-style VR needs to be grounded for it to work properly.

Re: 1952 F1 Bumpers

They were painted front bumpers. Rear bumpers were an option starting in '51, and were also painted. Those were Korean War days, chrome was in short supply.

Edit: could be different in Canada, but...

Nice find! The mfr's still play that game of exaggerating every little "feature".

Re: 8BA stuff

The intakes with broken generator guides are worth about a quarter at the scrappers'. The cost of shipping cast iron ones is about $30 - $40, somewhat limits their appeal.

Re: 1951 Starter 6&8

The Truck parts book shows both 9 and 10 tooth drives used on the H engines, no explanation of why.

Re: 52 f1

If something is broken in the mechanism, you may want to try pulling out on the handle while pushing the trim in. You have to push the trim in pretty hard, don't be afraid to be forceful.

If the pin is really sheared, can you just pull the handle off?

Re: 1950 Ford F1 value?

Are you looking to buy or end up with a show truck? The repaint wouldn't bother me, as long as it didn't look like they did it with a towel. It protected the steel, and at least in these pics doesn't...

Re: 1950 Ford F1 value?

It is in excellent shape body-wise. If it is unrestored, does that mean it has not had the brake system gone thru? Is the wire insulation in good shape? Which transmission does it have? I'm guessing...
