Re: 50-52 Truck Bed

Yes, That's basically what I've done, however I've come across the curious fact that when I apply this method to both USA and CDN beds, I do not come up with the same dimensions.

Here are the two...

Re: 50-52 Truck Bed

I am definitely not a 'Wood' guy. So working with something even as simple as bed boards has been a challenge. I'm making up a set of test boards with crap softwood first so I can test my dimensions...

Re: 50-52 Truck Bed

My problem is that i'm trying to figure out the dimensions used for the boards and the spacing for a Canadian truck.
Unfortunately in Canada, the building that housed all that information burned...

Re: 50-52 Truck Bed

I'm actually looking for the specific blueprints from Ford.

I'd like to know the exact dimensions they specified for the box and the boards.

I've seen quite a few aftermarket drawings, none of...

50-52 Truck Bed

Does anyone have a copy of the original blue prints for the 50-52 F1 Truck bed?

I would love to see the actual measurements of the bed and its boards as it was designed.

What were the original...

48-50 F1 Front Fenders

Does anyone have any experience with the reproduction 48-50 F1 steel front fenders on the market?

I'm trying to decide if its more cost effective to repair my existing fenders or replace them, but...

Re: 50 F1 Parking Cable Boot

That sounds great JB.

I only have a small remnant on one of my original ebrake cables. Not enough to get any measurements from.

Re: 50 F1 Parking Cable Boot

I agree with you guys, it would seem entirely possible to either 3d print, or get a shop to specialty make a batch of these. However I don't have an original to work from.

I was thinking that if...

Re: Headbolts

Clearly the humour intended in my post didn't translate well to text.
I'll try harder next time. :)

Re: flathead rebuild

I'm surprised the machine shop would bore the cylinders without the pistons on hand.

Reds Headers can be your one stop shop for most everything you'll need. They carry the adjustable lifters,...

Re: Headbolts

Really?
No one has a definitive answer as to why headbolts can have either an 'S' or an 'H' on the head?

My trust in the Fordbarn as the ultimate pool of old timer knowledge is deeply shaken......

Headbolts

Why do some flathead headbolts have an H on the head, and some have an S on the top? (These are Canadian Flatheads)

I've come across both, on various engines.

Re: Need to put PS on a 51 Ford Victoria

Are you running radial tires?

Re: Painting car underside

I was thinking more in terms of my truck. The tank is in the cab. They partially assembled the vehicles before the sprayed the main color.

Re: Painting car underside

They were painted with the gas tanks in place, and it was a quick process. They just sprayed it to cover what you could see.

Thanx for all the info guys. I appreciate it.
Like I said I'm still processing the whole idea that the wood was painted body color. It just never occurred to me.

Re: Question for Oldtimers - Pickup Bed Wood

My truck is Canadian, so it wouldn't have gotten wood from Henry's extensive forests and saw mills in Michigan.
(No Globalization back then. Canadian trucks were made in Canada. Every last piece)

Re: Question for Oldtimers - Pickup Bed Wood

That's amazing, I had no idea they painted the beds with the same paint as the body.
I wonder if they pre-treated the boards with anything or just layered on the body paint.
It doesn't look like...

Question for Oldtimers - Pickup Bed Wood

Here is a question for someone old enough to see it new:

In 1950 when the Ford pickup trucks started coming with just the wood bed and metal strips, what did the wood look like?

Was it...
