Thanks to everybody, all good info. Yeh, they were leather. The new ones I got are double lipped rubber with a spring band. Again, A BIG THANKS.

Thanks to everybody for your comments, very helpful. I got lucky and found the oem seal on none other then ebay. Perfect fit, I did not want to be a three time loser. If anybody needs one it is ebay...

That's what I thought, it seems that the gaskets are there to displace moisture and stop any rust from starting between the different parts. Thank you for your time.

Rear Axle Seals?

I'm replacing the rear axle bearings in my '61' Galaxie. I don't see any rear axle seals. Is this typical for this year and model? The bearing is a ball bearing assembly with seals on both sides....

Thanks Frank, the end of the water pump shaft is not exposed so nothing for my gear puller to push on. The end of the water pump shaft is covered by the fan shaft/flange.

It's a triple pulley and a clutch fan so can't really see any shaft. I guess if I put a good helping of penetrating oil on it tonight, like you said, it's bound to get somewhere in there. I'll do...

'61' 292 'Y' block, I can't seem to remove the pulley/fan assembly from the waterpump shaft. I've removed the four bolts and have pried with a wonder bar on the backside of the pulleys pretty heavy...
