Re: Water in oil

If all the leakage stems from just a leaking head gasket, then not a big issue to just change the head gaskets. While the heads are off the engine, this is a good time to also check them for cracks....

Re: Fastenal Is Now Blue Line Freight

The Fastenal outlets in my area require business accounts in order to do business with them. That stopped a lot of hobbyist or 'drop in' trade and has to make a difference on the bottom line. I...

Re: engine vibration

Pressure plates are always a sore spot when it comes to vibration control on an engine. After that would be the clutch disks but those disks can be isolated from the engine by simply disengaging the...

I also had a '61 Ford Fairlane with a 292 and 2 speed auto that had that same factory installed throttle control under the dash. The car had an automatic choke so the throttle control could have...

Re: Can 312 crankshafts fit into a 292 Y Block?

The front oil slinger behind the timing cover is the same for all 1954-1964 Ford Y engines.
Likewise for the damper which is vehicle specific and not engine size specific. Just keep in mind that...

Re: Can 312 crankshafts fit into a 292 Y Block?

When machining the 312 crankshaft to fit in the 272/292 main saddles, the 312 crankshaft rear seal surface and rear oil slinger O.D. must be also machined to the 272/292 sizes along with the main...

Re: What would you recommend: Water temp gauge for 352 FE from 1961?

Is the temperature sending unit hole in the intake manifold 1/8" NPT? If it is, one option is to drill and tap that existing hole to 1/4" or possibly 3/8" NPT. If it's the intake manifold I'm...

As far as the amount of time to replace the pinion seal, if it's a...

Re: Holley 4150 carburetor development history

I've nothing to back this up with but I'm in the camp that believes the model 4150 development came about as a result of the horsepower race that was developing in the Fifties. The 4V Carter and...

Re: Holley 1273-2S carburetor

At this point I'm assuming the idle mixture screws are not making a difference. If you are already two turns out with each, then it's time to go back into the carb. Sounds like the idle circuits...

Re: 1956 272 flywheel

The flywheels from the 215/223/262 Ford sixes will interchange with the 239/256/272/292/312 Ford Y engines. The bell-housings are different though. As previously brought up, the pressure plate bolt...

Re: Oil to use?

The reason for using non-detergent oil in a non-filtered engine is so that the contaminates in the oil drop to the bottom of the pan rather than be carried in suspension where those contaminates can...
