Re: Clutch slipping.

I got the flywheel and pressure plate back from the machine shop.

I cleaned the carbon off the top of one piston and found it's already 0.070" over. Bore gauge showed an additional 0.0165"...

Re: Clutch slipping.

So I took the flywheel and pressure plate to a local machine shop (MulletWagon - about 1.5 miles from Upper Heyford!) and they're going to reface the flywheel. They took a look at the pressure plate...

Swapped that out a while back when I first put this engine and trans in.

Found my spare pressure plate. Has a very light score on it and a little surface rust. I can...

Re: Clutch slipping.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'm still relatively new to these old cars so all advice is welcome.

I shall contact a local machine shop and see what they can do. I have a spare used pressure...

Re: Clutch slipping.

No noise. Out of the ordinary. I was in an A with a worn out clutch this summer and it's quite a distinctive smell. There were a few whiffs of that smell, but nothing too significant.

I've started...

Re: Clutch slipping.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

The pedal travels 1.5" to 2" up from the floorboard before it starts to bite.

I've peered in through the inspection hole and can't make out much of any importance....

Unhappy Clutch slipping.

The clutch in my '31 started slipping this weekend. Slipped a couple of times in traffic and then a whole bunch more coming up a long hill in 3rd - revs were going up, car was slowing down. Made it...

Re: Generator output too high.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's actually a Danish car with the proper 201ci engine and all. The generator was on the car when I got it, but the cut out was only half there and that half was rusty....

Generator output too high.

I seem to have a later generator with the ribbed aluminium front plate and ventilated rear plate. I've cleaned up and re-adjusted the cut out switch. Finally, I now have current, but it's too high...

Re: Bench testing a generator cutout

Thanks for the replies, guys. I appreciate it. Already checked my power supply with a volt meter and it's spot on the voltage it says it is.

I've been busy with other stuff which means I've only...

Question Bench testing a generator cutout

I have a 31 model A generator that isn't generating. The car has been in a barn for decades and the generator has never worked for me. I suspect all kinds of issues within the generator itself, but...

Re: Light switch connector questions...

So here's where I'm up to:

New end plate purchased and installed. Box was full of grease, I managed to scrape a load out and refilled it with 600w. So far, no leaks.

Note the...

Re: Light switch connector questions...

One of the positive things we get from having the internet!

And on the subject of sharing ideas: I don't have the three clips that are supposed to be on the bottom of the radiator to hold the...

Re: Light switch connector questions...

Fitted the new switch/harness straight from the box and it was locked solid, so I left it off for a while. Trailered the car to a show the other weekend and drove it for the first time around the...

Re: Backing plate bolts too long?

The only 7/16" washer I had were spring washers, so I tried them behind the baffle and it's worked perfectly. Thanks for the help.

When I embarked on this little adventure, several people told me...

Re: Backing plate bolts too long?

The bolts have shoulder to locate the backing plate securely and that doesn't protrude very far through the axle flanges, so the washer can't really go under the head of the bolt. The way the baffle...

Question Backing plate bolts too long?

I'm putting my rear brakes back together and I'm finding that the backing plate bolts seem to be too long on both sides. The car appears to have been in a barn since the 60s until I bought it so I...

Re: Hand throttle not allowing throttle to go back to the idle screw?

I'm having a busy time at the moment, so I might be a bit slow with replying to things.

Thanks for all of the responses, it's got me looking at a few things.

So the spark advance/retard can go...

Question Hand throttle not allowing throttle to go back to the idle screw?

So, I've swapped a known good engine and trans from a 31 coupe into my 31 tudor. Fired it up for the first time last weekend and it idled way fast.

The throttle was nowhere near the idle...

We normally go to the Gaydon show, but this year we'll be visiting the colonies when it's on.

Re: Show me your Tudor interiors!

I'm no purest, so although I'm keeping the stock seats, I'm thinking about going for vinyl instead of cloth. Maybe mirror the blue/black paint combination. Front seats are small though, so I can't...
