Re: '54 / '55 Fordomatic ID ?

There is a procedure to set the down shift rod spelt out in the Fordo manual and in Motor's books. It is not in the regular shop manual.

The linkage set up looks like the 57 linkage. I have...

Re: electric fans and temp gauge?

Grainger has (or did have - haven't checked lately) inexpensive thermometer that has a sensor lead of ten feet that goes into the upper radiator hose. The part number that I have is 5XL18. I don't...

Re: Coolant additives

From what I understand about this product is that you cannot mix anything in it. It has to be thoroughly cleaned out before using any other kind of coolant. No good if you are stuck on the road and...

Re: 1956 Mainline clock problem

I can't say it has happened, but I had the clocks in my 54 Ford and 56 Bird converted to a quartz movement. Both have kept excellent time, the first over 15 years. Just an option.

Re: Coolant additives

Look at the bottles of anti-freeze like Zerex and Peak. I believe they have water pump lube and anti-rust ingredients.

These are the ingredients that over time, lose their effectiveness. That...

Re: 32 Pa. LicenPlates now legal on my 32 now

We can't use YOM plates as the official plate, but there is no yearly registration fee.

Our "Historic" registrations only require one plate (back) and we can put anything else on the front so a...

Re: Another Oil question

A noted Y Block engine builder uses Valvoline 10-30 or 10-40 conventional oil in all his builds. Good enough for me. Says sufficient ZDDP as long as the oil is changed at least once a year - more...

Re: Early speedometer with later transmission

A speedo shop that makes up cables should be able to make up a custom cable that has both ends that you want. Not that expensive. Because the bullet end (49-56) may not be available any more (???)...

Re: helmet dist wiring

When figuring what is left and what is right, this is when you are in the drivers seat, not looking to the back in front of the radiator.

Re: Source for rewiring '57 T-Bird

If you are going to do it yourself with the dash in the car, remove the front seat to give yourself plenty of room. An electrical installation manual for the 57 is you best bet - it shows how...

Re: Fender hardware

NO, it's not. Any torque difference is small if there is one. Based on the charts I've seen, there is only a 1 pound difference in torque between fine and coarse.

Re: 1956 Ford fairlane 4-dr rocker panel install

Ideally, the body should be on the frame when replacing panels like rockers in order to maintain body alignment. Since yours is already off, do one rocker at a time. The thing in your favor is it...
