Re: Y block Mercury engine color?

In '55 there were two Mercury Y-Blocks offered. The Montclair came standard with a 198 HP 292 (like the T-Bird), and all other models came with a 188 HP 292. The 198 HP engine was 8.5:1 compression,...

Re: Scam

I would rant and rave at EBAY/PayPal and the buyer. If no satisfaction, I would take a quick vacation to the address the hood was delivered to and talk face to face. Hopefully without violence.

Re: Ryan Newman Ford

On the news they said the liquid was fuel. Nothing short of a miracle that there was no fire and that Ryan Newman survived that crash. Especially when getting t-boned in the driver's door at high...

Re: ID help with this engine

That coil looks like a Ford E core coil like they used on EFI engines in the late 80's and 90's. Guess it works good here too as long as 12 volts.

Re: Picture of Holley carburetor float adjustment tool 9550-E

"A long time ago, I had a shop in Ferndale, Michigan, and it seemed that there were tool and dye shops on every corner, so it was easy to get what ever you wanted made. I miss that."

Re: Picture of Holley carburetor float adjustment tool 9550-E

You might want to search for auto tools on EBAY. Don't remember the seller's ID but there was a guy selling specialty automotive tools. I bought a Snap-On tool from him for tightening and removing...

Re: Picture of Holley carburetor float adjustment tool 9550-E

The first time I saw a tool for that was now in your post. I've been doing carbs with that style float for a long time, and have no problem doing it without a special tool.

Re: '54 / '55 Fordomatic ID ?

I think the 256 Merc Y-Block in early '55 T-Birds might just be an old wives tale. Why would the use an inferior less powerful engine in a Bird if the 272 was available from the start of '55...

Re: Distributor to 1951 255 8BA

Original carbs made to work with Loadomatic distributors supply a blend of vacuum between the venturi suction and ported manifold vacuum. The max the distributor diaphragm will see is maybe 4" hg....

Re: Spark Plug reach into head - Is this normal?

In my mind, as long as the ground strap on the spark plug doesn't go lower than the ledge in the head that surrounds it, there should not be an issue.

Re: Soot from exhaust on start-up

Respectfully I disagree with having to go to different sized main jets when using 10% ethanol fuel.

Re: 1963 Hot Rod Ford Performance Handbook Ford 406

Like KULTULZ said, some of the later 406 blocks were cross bolted. Yes, more than likely a 406 on the cover, since it has tri-power. 427's came out mid model year in '63 and were either single or...

Re: Apparent change to PayPal (for the worse)

My opinion is that it's because PayPal and EBAY are now partners. Maybe trying to address EBAY scam issues ?

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

I realize this isn't a production model. It was either made from a Parklane or a Ranch wagon. I only say Ranch Wagon because part of the Parklane trim is missing.

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons

Or a Crown Ranch Wagon with Fairlane trim.
Only the ID plate in the door jamb knows for sure.

Re: Flathead V8 head bolts vs studs

Thank you everyone for the replies. It looks like it's a fairly safe bet the head bolts first appeared in '49 on the 8BA. possibly '48 truck, although Ronnieroadster said '48 trucks had studs. I'll...
