By design, nothing will happen until you press the starter button - after you turn the ignition on. Check to see if you get voltage at the starter terminal while pressing the start button.

I understand how a leaking head gasket could generate bubbles in the coolant, but where could the oil be originating from? Perhaps a crack in the block? :(
