Re: Gas line installation

What you have witnessed is proper. The line protruded past the end of the fitting about a half inch.
Authentically, the ferule was soldered to the line. I do that on my new lines to avoid any...

Re: Leather seats

Saddle soap? With eleven horse, I certainly "remember" it. We use that on harnesses and halters.
Neatsfoot oil on baseball gloves....

Re: Leather seats

Lexol is a fine product available at most farm supply stores. Most certainly adequate for the typical leather interior.
I would suggest cleaning the surfaces prior to applying any conditioner....

Re: 1940 "standard" Fordor dome lamp(s)

Still searching for an answer to my question: How many dome lamps were fitted to a 1940 Ford "standard" Fordor?" Anyone?

Re: 1940 "standard" Fordor dome lamp(s)

The Deluxe models had one on each B pillar. Total of two.
So, in your opinion, the so called "standard" model Fordor also had a total of two lamps?

Re: 39 Ford/Mercury transmission Removal

An easy task without the engine installed!
You will need to remove the transmission cover to access the rear transmission mount as well as the torque tube coupling.
A very straight forward...

Re: Help me identify these holes in my dash

Yep, hole above gauge cluster is the hi-beam indictor.
The other two holes are not factory.
Too bad someone didn't do their homework before painting the dash.

Re: Axle Quick fix seals which direction?

I understand Mart. However, I don't believe any of are any longer in a "service scenario" at this stage of life.
I dunno, I guess I just prefer doing it right the first time even if it takes a...

Re: Axle Quick fix seals which direction?

Okay, I have a question... "Why not simply replace the factory installed seal"?
That seal does the job quite well. And, obviously - it fits.

Re: '36 Cabriolet with an "18-F" prefix

Gosh, I hope this is sarcasm.
What if the car was built in England for it's domestic consumption? Would it still be "F" for foreign? Methinks not.

Re: Oil pan baffels ?

I have no clue why rear sump sometimes have a baffle and some don't.

Often times guys install a Melling (or equivalent) high volume pump when working on the engine. That puts the sump in a very...

Re: Oil pan baffels ?

Yes you need the baffle. My first hand experience has proven that without it being in place you may lose pressure going around corners and hills.
I had repaired a 34 coupe a couple of years ago...

Re: 39 steering column cover plate

Parts books are not a good source for "correctness".
I have little doubt that plate would fit on a 39... it's just that Ford didn't install one.

Re: starter or solenoid problem.

I too would check the battery first. If it ran down, you'll only hear a "click" as there isn't enough juice to crank the starter.

Re: removing 78-1175 grease seals from rear brake hubs... what's the trick ?

The snap ring is inside the drum. The ends of the ring are cut in opposing directions. Guys that have frequently dealt with these tend to grind them in the same direction so they can more easily...

Re: '39 Ford Master Cylinder Adjustment

You may well find that the rod length will be okay as it currently is. I'd suggest you install the new master cylinder and see how the brakes perform.
Me? I like a brake peddle that doesn't have to...

Re: Thermostats Recommended for 36 Ford?

You are correct (of course) that every vehicle is different.
The vehicles I build are done correctly from one end to the other. Those get thermostats installed just as the factory did.
Other...

Re: Thermostats Recommended for 36 Ford?

I agree with JSerry in that there has to be an underlying problem for you to be having over heating issues.
As there was never any shroud, that is not to be considered. There were engine pans that...

Re: 39 steering column cover plate

The metal plate is placed atop the wood board.
And yes, the cable is routed below the column seal.
There is not other plate.

Re: 39 steering column cover plate

Here's the best photo I have that depicts the proper routing of the brake cable.
Also, you can barely see (part of) the plate.
