Re: 40-41 pu tailgate

To answer the question, yes, the top rail was tapered. The reproduction tailgates from Northern Classic (now out of business) were tapered as the originals. I know how he did that which was tricky. ...

Re: 1940 Ford Pickup Interior Trim

Check with Micheal at Early Ford store in San Dimas CA. I gave him two pair of those strips that I had left over from doing my '40 truck. Yes, they are hard to find as they just got thrown away...

Re: 40-41 pickup front fender splash shield install?

some of the reproductions were made wrong (of course) but not too wrong. I believe a tab or something was bent the wrong way. Anyway when you see from the pics on how they mount you will be able to...

Re: Ford production Facts book

Simple fact is you need both Dave's books and the Francis/Deangelis book if you are serious about 32 or early Ford stuff in general. Dave's books serve as your #1 go to for restoration of 32 period. ...

Re: Check out our walk thru the Hershey Swap Meet 2023

I am so against social media BS, however One thing that could be beneficial is for vendors to add a QR code on the corner of their booth so those that cannot be there can scan the code from the...

Re: Does anyone have & use the Dave Graham '32-'41 Ford & Mercury Service Manual?

That book and many others titled "shop manual " are of little use as any info is already in the Ford service bulletins, small Ford books like transmission repair, etc and the chassis parts books. The...

Re: Accuracy of a gas gauge in a 35 ford

When clean ,installed correctly and calibrated with the proper fluid and original calibration wire, they are totally accurate. They have to be. They are a manometer, no moving parts and depends only...

Re: Nice 34 Roadster

As an engineer and tooling guy, I am also infected with things being correct and perfect or better. However sometimes we just need to step back , take a deep breath and wonder why we are doing this. ...

Re: Nice 34 Roadster

Just to add to the record, at least for the 32 noted above; I know this car and helped the guy who built it. He was a well known model A guy and when he was 85 he wanted a 32. His model A's were all...

Re: Out of ideas and knowledge

Define "new starter". Around these vintage cars, I am always afraid of NEW anything. Especially with so much good, NOS and usable or rebuilt genuine fords parts available. Sort out what you have...

Re: Bore scope?

For a good one that works great and is super easy to use is the Depstech brand available on Amazon for $40 to 50 depending on model. They work wireless with your phone for viewing. The IP67 series...

Re: edelbrock uni-syn worthwhile?

Uni Syn works great for equalizing air flow using the built in manometer. However, and a big "however" is the old ones from back in the day, (70's) are terrific. However later on there was a China...

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge

Deciding what is correct will be an interesting decision as what you have now is 67% 1940 and 33% 1941. If the jeep original wiring harness was set up for an ammeter then the 1941 gauge was the only...

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge

You are part way there. The cluster ,speedo, fuel and looks like (too much glare) the temp are 1940 for sure. The oil and ammeter are '41 pickup because they have the thicker font for the lettering....

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge

Kinda.
The gauge is the same but the face plate has different graphics. The only gauge in the cluster that is different is the batt gauge where for some reason Ford went backwards in '41 by using...

Re: stud removal

This has been discussed a million times with all kinds of suggestions, ideas etc. 1) heat is your friend here, a LOT of it. 2) You do not want to break off the stud trying to get it out as this...

Re: Rebuild u-joint or not?

Since you are doing a ground up then rebuild it for two reasons;1) hard to get to later if you don't;2) it is easy and cheap to rebuild it to original perfect. Get the kit that includes the cross,...

Re: Running hot, where do I start the fix?

No apology needed here. You are the guy that noted a stuck thermostat could be the problem IF he had an overheating problem. I missed that item in my reply.

He is off to HF to get a temp gun....

Re: Running hot, where do I start the fix?

To follow up what "cadillac Terry " just said. He has no steam, therefore my first line was that he does not have an overheating problem. Also from the image of the owners manual, even Henry says he...

Re: Running hot, where do I start the fix?

Relax, your car is not running too hot. Even Henry Ford himself said and printed it in the owners manual that if the car is NOT steaming, then it is not too hot.
Next item is nothing is more...

Re: Bad sender or bad temp gauge?

Maybe we are making progress here. Remember that for the temp gauge that backwards thinking is required. I am an expert at that. No current flow through the dash gauge equals pegged to full...

Re: Can an early trans top be fitting with later shift forks?

Tricky question and even trickier answer. When you mention "later" forks, they generally mean the 81A or the 91A forks for the later double detent straight up shift tower. The answer to that is...
