Re: What years are these hydraulic backing plates???

I say '39 thru '42.
If in doubt, go to the book.

Re: sealed bearing fan hub

Why re invent the wheel ?
The stock 1949 V8 passenger car fan has a sealed bearing, four blade fan & a wide belt pulley.
They inter change with the 59A stuff, plus they are available.

Re: What color was the 1946 Mercury engine.

To answer the original question.
'42 thru '48 Mercury engines were dark blue.
'46 thru early '49 Ford passenger car engines were dark blue.
Strange how these posts go sideways.

Re: 36 LB. temp ranges, thermostats?

IMO a stock '29 A radiator will not cool a V8 flathead motor in hot weather. No band-aids will fix the problem.
A Walker radiator would fix it.

Re: Intake bolts THICK

Mike says.
Finally I bit the bullet and had some thick headed intake bolts made. Roy made these years ago but had been out of them for years due to the cost these days to make such items.

The...

Re: Exhaust Manifold Question

What is there to say ?
I would suggest using the manifolds that fit the chassis.

The manifolds appear to be '49 - '50 Mercury.

Re: Banjo hub bearing seat cracked

That is a sheet metal piece that is replaceable.
If your hub & drum is good, buy a junk hub just for the piece.
I have seen that piece on E-bay in the past.

Re: Are these those special U joint washers?

I agree.

I'm familiar with them from the electrical industry.
Swichgear, buss & terminations are a major consumer of belleville washers.

Re: Are these those special U joint washers?

I don't think they are a spring. I believe they are a "bellvill" washer.
You can "Google" it.

Edit: belleville, sorry

Re: Zephyr overdrive into 1940 Ford?

I was at the Moonshine Festival a few years ago with my blue standard, Lincoln OD equipped '40. Powered by a 255 Merc flathead.
In fact we met, probably introduced by Charles B.
Anyway, my Lincoln...

Re: flathead mercury EAC engine info needed

Looking at the carb, water pumps, red oil filter & the bell housing next to it, I say it was plugged into a truck.
Scrape a clean spot on the block, if there is lite green paint that matches the...

Re: Anyone fitted a Bob Drake Rear Anti-Sway Bar kit?

I installed Bob's kit on my '40 several years ago. Best single modification you can do to an early Ford.
About the brackets- after you remove the original shocks, you will use one bolt hole for your...

Which means only the '42s you've looked at look like the "pics above".
Here's a photo from a '42 that has won preservation awards.

So you are saying if a '42 Ford or Merc doesn't...

Re: Plug Wire Tubes

Mike I do not doubt you either, but all the NOS 21a tubes I have do not have a metal cross over (like the Lincoln’s had)

Except of...

Re: Plug Wire Tubes

I've fussed with '42s a couple of times and have not seen a metal tube on the cross over wires, only a coated sleeve, like a small version of a head lite loom.

How about a part number for the...
