You need to back em off first one at a time and then retorque em. Not just try to retorque em.

Its called stitching weve been doing it for years on all different blocks. The plugs come in different sizes, small to large. All are tapered.

Lay the heads on top turn the motor over without any head gaskets. If it goes without hitting anything youll be ok when the gaskets are there. Hopefully your using an aftermarket gasket.

Havent seen any Flathead rear main rope seals needing to be cut. I use the felpro sets. Never cut the fronts also.

This is how its done. But steel plugs are fine they have no affect on changing the balance.

Using those style ring will eat up a lot of horsepower maybe as much as 20 or so.

If you have all cast iron rings I wouldnt be concerned. More power comes from
a 3 ring setup with molly rings.

Those baerings look good, I would check or change the pump while its apart though. That clearance is not enough to give you no pressure? You may have a relief valve sticking?
