When I built my roadster I shaved the original cowl lights and left the signals off the front. You only really need rear turn signals anyway.

I would take the throttle linkage right off the carb. Then you can tell if it's a carburetor issue or a linkage issue.

That was my thought also, if the bushing with the two flats fits into the earlier shoe it would be fine but I'm not sure if they are the same size. The only parts I have loose are post war style.

The mustang style should pulse about 5v to the gauges. I've used them for decades with good success.
