Re: Loose Rod

I have assembled upwards of 180 engines with inserted rods supplied by Antique Engine Rebuilding (AER) and of those, I have run about 100 of them on an engine dyno to break them in. What I have...

Re: Bronze Model A Ford Rear Main Thrust Plate & Oil Seal installation

ghalperin,
I have used over 150 of these combination thrust and seal in rebuilding A engines with insert bearings. To avoid a leak, bed the combination thrust and seal with a sealant. Permatex #2...

Re: new B motor running issue

If you have 2# of fuel pressure, your problem most likely is with the carbs.
Check the flow of fuel right at the inlet to the carb...you may have an obstruction in the line or at the carb fitting....

Re: Ok, I've got a question for the Northerners....long.

If you do take it out there is likely the salt on the roads. That is what keeps me from driving this time of the year. I usually wait for two heavy rains in spring before I take mine on the road. ...

Re: Non-Authentic Paint Colors & Schemes

Bob,
I don't understand the purpose or intent of your original posed question. which was: I am positive regarding deviating from Ford's factory colors and schemes. However, I am negative about using...

Re: Non-Authentic Paint Colors & Schemes

I find it hard to improve on the original paint colors. This opinion coming from someone who still works at the same business started 45 years ago, married to the same woman over 40 years and living...

Re: Camping in a Model A

For me, there is nothing better than a drive through Glacier National Park, Cascade Mountains, Muir Woods or Yellowstone Park with the top down in a Phaeton. Breathtaking views! Just recalling the...

Re: Over Drive

I have a Mitchell in my '29 Phaeton and have put over 98,000 miles on it with no trouble.
The rear end is a 4:11 and the overdrive is a 26% ratio. The engine is modified some to provide between 55...

Re: Mitchell OD Shift Lever Clearance

The shift lever works in my '29 Phaeton, which I think has the same front seat clearances as your Roadster. When in "high and high" the overdrive lever misses the transmission lever...it is to the...

Re: rear main leak

I have assembled and bench run many engines and my experience with oil leaks: If it leaks while on the test stand with no substantial load, it will leak worse once loaded. My testing and breaking in...

Re: Harmonic Balancer

I would only consider it an option to get me back to a convenient spot to change the belt. I do not know enough about the sectional belt to trust it would give me long service life.
Maybe I need to...

Re: Harmonic Balancer

As per Pete's explanation: Adding a dampener to the front of the engine would likely add to the service life of your crankshaft.

Re: Harmonic Balancer

I installed it as part of a "B" engine build for a car I am building for touring. I have no bench mark to compare it to. That said, the engine runs strong and pretty smooth.
Good Day!

Re: Harmonic Balancer

I have one of the described dampening pulleys on my '31. To replace the belt, I need to remove the front spring bolt nuts and slide the u-bolts up and to the side to allow enough clearance between...

Re: Valves

I use the single lock tappets and don't have an issue adjusting them. Double lock are more work than single lock but with the correct wrenches not difficult. I have ground a couple open end wrenches...

Re: 32 B4 rear seal missing

For a good reproduction of the original: Snyder's has them in their offerings: Rear main oil seal B-6335

Another option that I most often use on a B block is the Small Block Chevy (SBC) rear...

Re: FS ignition timing

I run my Lion Speed Head, milled .074", at 24 degrees advance and still need to be careful when climbing hills to avoid lugging and the resulting pinging. Downshifting to raise the rpm solves the...

Re: Hot Driver

I installed a Ken Davis unit in my '31 Slant Windshield. I am well satisfied with the way it works. I only notice a drop in engine RPM at idle. It was not difficult to install.

Re: 6V versus 12V (stupid ques. I'm a newbie)

Unless you have a compelling reason to change, I suggest staying with 6 volt positive ground. Most technical articles for the maintenance of the Model A assume the car is wired as original (6 volt)...
