Re: 55 272 Distributor

Not all Cardone rebuilt distributors have the shorter shaft. If you buy the distributor for the '57 and later application you just measure the shaft to be 6" from the engine mounting surface. The...

Re: Still needing advise on 52 F1

Re: Still needing advise on 52 F1

If the screws that attach the vacuum can to the distributor aren't tight, you can feel some play.

Re: 52 F1 timing

If you are looking at your marked crank pulley lined up with the pointer, up toward the top of the engine is advancing, or firing before TDC. The engine us turning clockwise (looking at the front of...

Re: Too low of 49 front end

15's would help fill the wheel well and raise it a little, depending on tire size.

Re: Smoky startup after sitting

White smoke usually indicates moisture in the cylinder. The rough idle could be moisture on the affected cylinder's plug until it clears out. It shouldn't take 3 weeks for it to occur, however. Is...

Re: 1949 overdrive

You can leave the kickdown switch in place, but the governor wire has to be hooked directly to the governor terminal on the relay. I suggest you put a switch in the governor wire to disable the...

Re: UPS loses Package !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

USPS has evidently changed their employment practices since the days of dependable service. My postal person says that they make him take a break in service every so often, evidently to qualify as...

Re: #4 Piston Removal

I bought a running '57 Ranchero with a 292 back in the 70's. It had a little light tap in the top end. I ran the engine for quite a while. Then one day I was driving about 65 mph and suddenly I heard...

Re: 36 Ford drag link orientation question

I have the same oil pan in my '38. With the steering box centered and the drag link connected, there was very little left-turn movement allowed. As The pitman arm moved toward the pan, the drag link...

Re: Idler Arm Bushings

I changed mine a few years ago. The loose link made it wander as the toe-in changes. Instructions were in the box. I think the only torqued piece is the bushing that screws into the steering center...

Re: 52 f1

Instruction say to plug the line from the carburetor. There shouldn't be any vacuum on the line at idle, but it only takes a second to block it. The vacuum source is removed from the advance...

Re: 39 ignition key

There is a dimple on the lock cylinder. Line the dimple up with the set screw in the column drop. You might have to rotate the key for alignment.
