Re: Worn out 31 roadster value?

I agree Bob, the plan would be to swap the motor and do the minimum to make it safe for local use. No cosmetics other than a good cleaning, blanket for the seat and maybe a new top. All work to be...

Re: Worn out 31 roadster value?

Thank you gentlemen for you help! One problem is that there is no asking price, the owner has only recently decided to part with it and has not set a price. If my friend can get it it will stay stock...

Worn out 31 roadster value?

A friend is trying to buy a 31 Deluxe Roadster and asked me what I thought it was worth, never an easy answer. I looked at it with him but I don't have pictures. The car has not run in at least 20...

Re: Shock fluid/oil

The right fluid depends a lot on how tight the internal clearances are. If the rebuilder says 80/90 I would go with that.

Re: Where to get the best quality pistons/rings for my A?

Re: New Guy

I like 30-31 style but be aware that late 31 with indented firewall does not have a fuel shut off inside the vehicle. I like to shut off the fuel when I walk away and opening the hood every time...

Re: counterbalanced crankshaft

I wouldn't drill an A crank for oil to the rods. If the motor is stock you don't need too, if it hopped up you will likely break the crank at #4 rod throw. That is the weak link.

Re: Shock fluid substitute

What you use for fluid will depend on how good the clearances are in your shocks. If not very tight STP, if tighter maybe jack oil. Either one will lubricate better than the old glycerin.

Re: brake linings

You have the front brake arms angled forward 15 degrees with play removed from brake push rods? Have to ask, this is very important for good braking.

Re: 8CM to 8BA

If you are putting it in a 51 Merc you can swap parts as needed but you will probably miss that extra stroke crank in the 8CM.

Re: maximan revs

You can make them breathe well enough to hurt themselves. I've run stock rods over 7000 rpm at the strip.

Re: 1949 Ford Door Latches in cold weather

Yes! 49 latches are crap, only lasted one year. Clean and lube, be sure the spring is good, cross your fingers.

Smile Re: Engine [Near] Death

Good to hear on the 3.54's and Mitchell, I was uneasy thinking of you cruising at 65 with the stock set-up.

Re: lesson learned...check the simple things first

I think that the quality of those replacement clamps has gone downhill quite a bit as well.
