Re: Renumbering question

It would be interesting to know how many Model A’s today have their original engine still in them, vs restored or re- built A’s that have another engine, but matching numbers. I bought my A restored...

Re: Help diagnosing engine knock

I also had a faint knocking sound that none of my Model A friends or I could identify. It ended up being a fiber timing gear going bad, which eventually failed. New gear installed and the noise...

Re: 1930-31 fan shroud ?

They were not included on the 1930 & 1931 Model A’s. I think by then they concluded they were unnecessary.

Re: Lightened Flywheel

I had a lightened flywheel and V-8 clutch installed about 14 years ago, along with the 5.5 head. Someone mentioned to me not to do it....it would ruin the Model A, it wouldn’t idle, it wouldn’t...

Re: Good time to check your fan blades

Re: Thermo Quail

I have had one for 14 years now, and it works for me. It’s true it does not give you a temperature, but I can tell by how far it has risen how close I am to overheating. My car does not hardly ever...

Re: Primer for YOM plates

California allows YOM plates, but you must check that the numbers/letters are still good. Plates can be restored, but DMV inspects them carefully and the new paint needs to match the original...

Re: Vapor Lock

Do a search.....this has been discussed over and over, with many different thoughts. Not all agree it even really exists. Kind of like which oil is best!

Re: Overheating

If you are running with the spark lever up, or severely retarded, it will sure not run well, or have any power. To me, it would be very noticeable.....

Re: Tow Companies

I have AAA, and have only used them a few times, and only once with my model A. I seem to remember them reiterating towing was for on-road emergencies only, and not for moving cars around from home...

Re: Overheating

Many of the old radiators have tubes that are seriously clogged. If other methods of cleaning do not work, then it is best to have it rodded by someone who knows what they are doing. When I had...

Re: New clutch: Judder from hell

I had the flywheel lightened and a V-8 clutch and pressure plate installed about 14 years ago, by our local Model A mechanic, and have never had any issues with it, even from the start. Much less...

Re: Using Parking Lights For Signal Lights

I’ve had cowl light turn signals, and dual LED taillights for 14 years in my A, and am very happy with both. The cowl lights, to me, are very noticeable, so a good solution for those that have them....

Re: insurance

I switched from Grundy to AAA many years ago, due to fewer restrictions on where and how I drive my A. Have been very happy and easy to work with.

Re: Over Drive

I have had a 26% Mitchell for almost 14 years and love it. It is like adding a 4th gear that the a Model A never had. And the Mitchell is so easy to use I even use it regularly around...

Re: Model A Registration Woes

I also recommend talking to your local AAA office first. They process titles and registration and often have someone who specializes in older cars. I did that here in California, with a Model A I...

Re: Brake Light Switch

Years ago I had an issue with mine, and Tom Endy recommended I buy one from A&L, as it has a bronze bushing that will last and never bind. Have had mine now for almost 14 years....a great product!

Re: Water pump to buy?

Per Tom Endy’s advice I bought a Jim Rupert water pump about 14 years ago, and it has about 14,000 miles on it now, with nary a leak.
