Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Yes you do need to determine installed height and do your testing at that length.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

That is a Canadian no. In US, the basic cam number was 6250. Be interesting to find out the specs.

I have never seen a cam with 8RT markings on it.

Re: Front seals

I have installed many 1 piece seals on my builds and have yet to have a problem, even with the stock spiral sleeve.

Re: Front seals

Was the seal installed properly? If you are not careful, the seal lip can roll under.

Re: 1939 radiator overflow tank?

I have an 8BA in my 39 with the original radiator. Around town, no problem. On the highway it would foam over. Just like what you are experiencing.

Re: 1939 radiator overflow tank?

Are you using anti-freeze? If so this could be the problem. Years ago when I got my 39, I had the same problem. I put a glass tube in one of the top hoses and could see the coolant foaming. The...

Re: Flathead bearings - red/blue sizes?

Std bearing thickness is .0852, so these could be used on a slightly undersized journal

Re: Adjustable Lifters

.350 is fairly typical for a 3/4 cam. The 8CM Merc has .331.

Re: Stuck Valve ?

No need for an allen wrench. The exhaust valve is directly under the spark plug opening. Easy to hit the center

Re: Stuck Valve ?

Turn the engine to get the lifter on the base circle. Tap the valve down carefully. Turn the engine over and repeat.

Re: Adjustable Lifters

Like Pete said, I would expect some worn lobes. You could take the heads off and check valve lift with a dial indicator. Worn lobes would show lesser valve lift.

Re: Woodruff Key for Mercury Crankshaft

It is the same as Ford. Not at the shop now so can't check size, but I'm pretty sure it is not a Ford specific item.

Re: Pressure Testing a Block

The pressure I am talking about is cylinder pressure. Think about it, when you take a pressure test, you'll get readings well above 100 psi. Cylinder pressure when running is considerably more. So 50...
