Re: Spindle Conversion Reversal

Heat a spot red hot with an acetylene [sp] torch and take 2 ball pean hammers. One ball against the hot spot and hit it with the second. The ball will stretch the race when stuck.

What did you set the fingers at ? [ 5/8" or 11/16" will work] How close a tolerance did you set them to ? [.002"]

What did you set free-play at ?

Clutch chatter can be finger adjustment or...

Re: Question? Peened inner front wheel bearing

A previous bearing may have seized and spun on the spindle making the new bearing loose. Maybe someone thought the bearing wouldn't stay in place, who knows what happens sometimes.

A factory issue...

Re: SLOW starter

By 'garage floor' I'm assuming you mean the starter is not in the car. Did you test the commutator ? Its an easy test with a continuity meter but you may have to take the armature to a shop for a...

Re: Clutch travel

1 inch of freeplay is right and the pedal shouldn't have to travel all the way to the floorboard. It kinda seems to me the pedal shaft bushings are really worn or the pressure plate fingers are not...

Re: Is fuel bubbling normal

If its not vapor locking I wouldn't worry about it. Will it start up after sitting for a half-hour or so ?

Re: Question? Peened inner front wheel bearing

Is the bearing staked on the spindle after the bearing was slid on ? Can you see the stake marks ? If so, I would think a dremel or file would work. Also see if you can drive a chisel behind the...

Re: Battery in wrong

The amp was charging in the video ? So how is the ammeter acting now ? If it is acting as it should, then it can be left alone if you like.

Re: Installed battery cutoff switch today.

I don't want to criticize, but, I think the wire is a bit light. I think #2 should be the minimum, [the heavier the better]. I too prefer the switch mounted inside or where it can be reached easily....

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles

Re: Battery in wrong

You've just received a lot of info, some good some not.

You say the engine starts and the lights work. That will happen no matter how the battery is connected.

What does the ammeter show ?...

Re: Flywheel housing

Yep, that manual is a good thing to have hanging around.

I'm one that prefers to remove the rear end and transmission. I leave the spring attached to the axle. Some prefer to leave the spring...

Re: New York State Department of Motor Vehicles

Yep, I understand. A front wheel doesn't come off mine either and I wouldn't allow it even though its required. I used to be the inspectors inspector.

Ford does have some recalls on some of their products, So I'm sure you're interested it you would be involved. :D [smiley face]

Re: Flywheel housing

Yep, that manual sure helps. I'm one that prefers to remove the rear end and transmission. I also prefer to leave the spring attached [ that spring can be dangerous if not handled correctly].

When it comes to multi-weight oils, 10W40, This oil has the viscosity of a 10 weight and the film strength of a 40 weight.

Re: LED tail light kits

I use the lights that are a flat array of LEDs [ not a bulb type replacement] and they work fine, very bright. I have used the direct bulb type replacement in other applications, they work OK but are...

Re: Acts like it's starving for fuel.

Have you tried running the GAV open 3/4 to 1 1/4 turns open to see if that helps ? Tillotson's prefer the GAV open much more than a Zenith. Also running without the fuel cap is a good suggestion, the...

Re: pressure plate adjustment

I don't have a problem with setting the fingers at either 5/8 or 11/16 as long as there is no more than .002" variation.
I don't use a height gauge as such, I use a piece of round stock turned to...

Re: 1931 Model A Headlights

I use both the cowls and parks along with LED rears as turn signals. If higher [10] CP front bulbs are used the thermal [535] flasher will work.

I have a 31 STD that has been 'deluxeified' and...

Re: Late 31 stop light switch replacement

The switch is simple and if its a well made unit it can be fixed easily. It just bolts in place as mentioned and the rod can be adjusted.

Re: Oil Leak

I don't use gasket sealer on the shims. I use it to hold the gaskets in place, especially a little extra where they meet one another.
Time does go by pretty fast, faster the older we get.
