The black pipe on the outside of the engine from the valve cover to the block is indeed a oil return.


Where would the oil go when driving up a long hill?

Keep it. Use the car a while and then decide what you want. There is no operational reason to change the voltage. Use the money you will save for gas.

We have better oil now with better additives so the 500 mile mark is a little out dated. But them again oil is cheap compared to a new engine.


Nobody will take your car away if you do it 500 or...

Don't say that! the gas gauge is a simple fix. Replace the float and your done, a couple of hours with the right tools and your on your way.
