Re: New Radiator and Losing Coolant

First thing, don't buy the old wives tale about water pump pumping so fast that water piles up in the top tank before it can flow through the radiator. The water pump can only move water, not produce...

Re: 8 volt battery in 6 volt car

If you want to run an 8 volt battery its simple enough to build a 2 volt voltage reducer with 3 power diodes in series. Check the maximum current draw, then use diodes that are rated for at least...

Re: Tudor pronunciation

My Grandfathers both pronounced it "two dur and four dur" Definitely not "four door or two door". That's the way I've heard most of the past generation pronounce it so that's how I do it too....

Re: GAV and alcohol

Yeah, that corn lobby is FORCED on the farmer. Doesn't matter if they want to support it or not, they are forced to contribute to it.

Re: Backfire or popping when going down hill

As others have said, open the GAV a bit. I lean it out a 1/4 turn when cruising down the highway, but before I slow or come into town I open up the GAV the 1/4 turn again. That's half the fun of...

Re: Cracked Block

I did it on a Model T head with a nasty crack. Worked great. After it was well cured I refilled it, then when that was well cured I filed and sanded it smooth, then paint. Never leaked, couldn't tell...

Re: Cooked corn in radiator

If you bring the radiator into a radiator shop be sure to inform them that a Model A cooling system is nonpressurized and the radiator should not be pressure tested.

Re: AMP Meter Reading

Sounds like you have a fun projects regulator on it. Your ammeter center may not be truly zero amps. With engine shut off look for zero on the gauge. Here is how mine is set up: turn lights on low...

Re: VIN number 1930-A

Why does he need a bonded title? The car is legally titled. Its a simple matter of making sure the vin off of the legal title is visible on the car so that he can transfer the title. If there is...

Re: GAV closed, car dies

Mine is not that sensitive. It'll run with the GAV closed but will be lean. Try some Seafoam in the fuel for a while, it'll clean up the fuel system.

Re: Choke to start all the time?

I don't think the OP is confused about the GAV vs the choke. If all else runs well, whats wrong with a short choke pull when starting? For hand starting, there is a brass wire and ring choke kit you...

Re: Sandblasting sheet metal parts

Also keep the nozzle at an angle to the metal, not straght on. If it is a thinner piece, ive dropped the pressure all the way down to 40psi. Nothing truly gets rid of rust in the pores like blasting,...

Re: Analyze this . . .

You should be able to get a lean run with the GAV. Then open it up JUST enough to smooth out. Usually I close mine a bit more while cruising. If you can't get a lean run then you need to check into...

Re: VIN number 1930-A

If you are confident that the VIN is valid and not fraud, then stamp the blank area where it should already have been. If you think the VIN is NOT valid, then you have a problem.

Re: Air Maze Air Filter on Zenith Carb Question

I've used an AirMaze for years. Plugs look great. I use a fiber mesh filter over the top of the AirMaze and use oil on the screen. I use about 1/4 turn GAV except when highway cruising. Then its...

Re: Im going to be buying some tubes and tires. good tubes? bad tubes?

I got Universal 21" tires from Coker and tubes from Mac's. This was a few years ago, no problems. Tires are wearing very well and look good too. I check the air pressure every spring. Cost me around...

Re: Oil for model a+ t

Full synthetic, or 100 percent synthetic oils, are extracted from crude oil or a byproduct of crude oil.

Re: Car won't start

Isn't a fuse issue if the starter won't turn over. First thing is to remove battery cables and clean/check, if still no go then get a voltmeter and start checking. First battery voltage, then move...

I would think that would work well. I've used that stuff for other things probably don't stretch is too tight, then maybe do a couple wraps of duct tape over the top. Moisture will find a through to...

Re: No compression all cylinders

It doesn't take much of a cylinder to produce "thumb compression". Must be stuck valves. They may be moving but not closing. I'd pull the head, the valve cover and the pan and look the internals...

Re: 1928 will not stay running

Use a good quality voltmeter and take measurements on the battery. Before you start it, with it running, and after it quits. Then we can make a data driven recommendation for you. Without more info...

Re: model a amp meter

Put a voltmeter on the battery first. Could be someone reversed polarity on the car without changing meter polarity, or several other reasons.

Not sure what you're getting at. See some different ways of doing things, like not painting the head before it's installed? Or wiring? or sparkplugs? or the friction taped...
