Re: Bronze valve guides??

Gary goes by GOSFAST here. He said last Friday that he would be away some this week, so don't be surprised id he doesn't answer a PM right away.

Re: 55 F100 start button

I googled for pictures and it appears that there is a starter button on the extreme left.

Re: Cleaning the center bearing.

I always appreciate being told "WHY", or the consequences, to do or not do something. It seems to reinforce the instructions

Re: Body to Frame isolators

I would think the frame goes between the two pieces of rubber with the extension on the round part going through the frame, as in "B" or "C".

Re: What year and what is it worth?

I was told that the '48 engine had studs, went to head bolts in '49, so this should be a '49-'50.

I had a '52 that had the VIN plate on the inside of the pocket door.

Re: What year and what is it worth?

From the pic of the grill, it is a '48-'50 model.

Re: Distribator off by one tooth - Pulley casting number

Mart, He said initially that the engine ran best with timing indicated about 1 1/2" advanced of the factory button. He used the zip tie method (your video) to determine TDC and it agreed with the 1...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?

I would like to see pictures of your radiator, fans, and inside unit. If you will send them to me at purser2@windstream.net I will try to post them.

Re: Cva

I can't get in with my log in info, either. When I enter my email for a password, it goes to a blank page.

Re: Distribator off by one tooth - Pulley casting number

Your distributor rotates clockwise, so picture #4 shows the rotor past (ATDC) #1 and the reason it doesn't run well set on the button. You rotated the drive gear CCW which put the rotor at before the...

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?

Here is the unit Miker refers to installed in my '55 Victoria. There is lots of glass in the car and on a 95 degree day in Mississippi it is marginal. I know the installation and charge has a lot to...

Re: Distribator off by one tooth - Pulley casting number

Me, too, JSeery. Here's my understanding and summary. The PO's car was timed to the factory marks and hesitating, spitting. He found a mark scribed on the lock down pad (I think) of the distributor...

Re: Distribator off by one tooth - Pulley casting number

BUT moving the distributor one tooth doesn't change the TDC location on the pulley. The OP said he verified the TDC using the cable tie method to be about 1 1/2" in advance of the factory timing...

Re: 39 accelerator pedal

As said above, the hinge and attaching fastener keeps the pedal "square". The rod has pivots at each end and is not intended to hold it in place.

Re: Flathead Engine Type?

The water pumps look like Mercury '49-'51. It looks like there is a little green paint on the lower front of the head, so Mercury is my guess. The oil pan doesn't look like it is from a car, though.

Re: Vacuum leak

If you spray over a vacuum leak you are adding fuel to a lean mixture caused by the leak. If you spray fuel into a mixture that isn't leaned out by a leak, you make the mixture over rich.

Re: Incorrect timing on pulley of 53' Mercury

When I blow up the picture in post # 36 I think I see the woodruff key in the slot that is broken out of the pulley. If so, it is not slipped.

Re: Incorrect timing on pulley of 53' Mercury

Just to be sure: you did bring the piston up against the stop, mark the pulley, reverse the rotation back to the stop, mark the pulley, and divide the two marks for TDC?
