Re: Mallory Distributor

I have a a Mallory on our Model A, not sure which model it is, but it came from Bubba.
There is an adjustable plate in it to limit the advance. In our case, with a 7:1 head, I've had to limit the...

Re: F 170 Tremec 3+1 transmission install

I have an F150 3+1 installed using a Macs Speed Shop bell housing and found it very satisfactory over many miles. Whilst he is based in New Zealand, I believe that he ships to the States or has an...

Re: Victoria with moveable stick shift

From memory, you simply pull the stick upwards and swing it around against the gas tank.

Re: Model A rearend conversion

Our speedster will cruise effortlessly at 70mph with the F150 gearbox and the highest ratio 4th gear, but we only hold this speed on a motorway in light traffic and excellent road surface. Otherwise,...

Re: Adjustable Drag Link

I bought one off Machine Girl a few years ago when I was unable to get full lock on both sides after fitting a shortened pitman arm. It worked a treat and was an excellent product.

Re: Hot Ammeter!

I've had all sorts of issues trying to get my speedster running properly and when local expert Errol, suggested looking at the ammeter, I found a similar result to that in the photo. With no fuse in...

Re: Dynamic dampening front pulley

This is my favourite theme, and I can only reiterate that Murray Horne's harmonic dampener worked miracles on our modified engine which had been scrupulously balanced, eliminating a loud timing gear...

Re: Vehicle vibration

The harmonic balancer pulley is a simple way to eliminate most vibrations that occur over the rev range. It is relatively simple to fit and reasonably inexpensive.

"These dampers are made by...

Nissan distributor for Model A

I have read that a Nissan electronic distributor with some modifications is a good installation on a modified Model A engine and wonder if anyone can tell me which model Nissan it would come from?...

Re: 4 inch drop axle, front for 31 A

Thanks Chris #12 What I can't tell from the photo is whether the Jeep tie-rod end comes with it's own ball and therefore requires the replacement of the original Model A ball? I have already replaced...

Re: 4 inch drop axle, front for 31 A

I'm curious about the Jeep Tie Rod ends solution? I have a '32 front axle which drops the front about 1.5 inches, but on sudden bumps, the tie rod taps the chassis and I haven't found a solution to...

Re: Lightened Flywheel

Thanks for that observation Brent, It was my understanding that a harmonic dampener is most effective at the front end of the crankshaft? Having seen a a flywheel mounted dampener, not only did it...

Re: Do YOU single-clutch ?

As mentioned by Jack Shaft, if you think you've got your double clutching off pat, it's time to try the challenge of not using the clutch except for starting and stopping.
Of the many crash box cars...

Re: Light Switch Problem

I found that the indents were too deep and had to partially fill them with an epoxy filler, smoothed out before the light switch would work.

Re: Adding castor to the axle

The chassis on our speedster was assembled by a hot rodding business and without my asking they cut and re-welded the radius arms to give 6-7degrees castor. This enables the car to be driven at 60mph...

Re: Shortened Pitman Arm

I fitted a shortened pitman arm shortened by 2" and it certainly reduced steering effort but increased the amount one had to turn the wheel.
As I could only get full lock on one side, I fitted an...

Re: When going for SCAT crank should you lighten flywheel? If so, how much?

Yes, being a Kiwi it was an obvious route to follow, although like many I was very doubtful that it would make a difference to my problems.
In fact it was a miracle!

Re: When going for SCAT crank should you lighten flywheel? If so, how much?

In building a fast road engine for my speedster I had the flywheel reduced to 35lbs (fitting a diaphragm clutch) and the crankshaft had counterweights welded to it and all fastidiously balanced...

Re: High compression head choice.

One needs to realise the improvement in the quality of petrol since the Model A was new.
I run a 7:1 head, still low by todays standards and I am running it on 91 octane petrol without problems....

Re: U. S. Mail

Looks like the radius arms go back to brackets on the chassis instead of the bell housing to keep the king pin inclination angle right? (Castor)
Otherwise, interesting bracket to lower the front...

Re: Harmonic Balancer

Surely the sectional belt is only carried in the unlikely but not unknown possibility of a broken fan belt? Then it enables roadside repairs until a normal fan-belt can be fitted in a workshop?
