I would suspect the gav needle is broke off at the tip ,with a new needle inserted into it. thus working as though the valve was turned all the way in. there beirng no adjustment.

I put mine in 2nd gear and get a friend in front and me in back and rock it back and forth hard and it pops right back , get in and start it up. dont be afraid to rock it hard. take keys out of car...

In the past i have put a good battery in it and used the starter while the car is in first gear. the starter will pull it up the ramp and on the trailer!!!

I don't use a filter. I do run to about 1500 miles ,I also watch the color of my oil at each check. if the oil starts to get dark it's changed early.

I have to agree with James Rogers on this one, I experienced the same issue.
Found it when taking engine and tranny out. It was so worn out, I don't know how it stayed together.
