I would check to see what gear ratio the rear end is. Most of the 30's were 6.67 to 1. This is considered undesirable from a driving stand point. You will get about 35mph out of it but that's...

If your running a babbit engine ... be careful .... you'll blow the bottom end right out of it by pumping up the top end too much!

Have you checked your shackles? I have had a few cars in the shop here that were leaners. Many times a tight shackle that will not take grease was the problem.
