Re: y-block blow by..

I’m glad the problem is solved. If you’ve got any miles to speak of on the motor, I’d either make a long run or change the oil. If it looks good on the dipstick a good run is probably enough. If it...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

Short answer yes. Those are widely used in the valve cover of much larger motors. But it worked fine on my 292. If the engine is fairly tight, there’s not much blowby at part throttle. At WOT,...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

That grommet works fine on a stock motor, installed in the valley cover. I used it for 2-3 years. Including a couple with 4lbs boost on a Paxton blowing thru an Edelbrock 1406. But when I built...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

The sealed oil fill cap with the tube out (I’ve not seen one for a PCV valve, doesn’t mean they aren’t out there) is to go to the air cleaner for a “closed” PCV system. I’ve used those.

The oil...

Re: 1955 ford with 2 barrel ford carb

I’ve used this grommet with baffle in the valley cover, worked fine with a stock motor. With the next stroker motor and supercharger, it wasn’t enough and I have to go with a welded baffle. It was...

Re: y-block blow by..

I had a PCV valve in the valley pan without sufficient baffling. It pick up a lot of oil, which on my set up mainly ended up in # 7&8 cylinders. But that was into the rear carb fitting on a 4...

Re: 1955 ford Ranch Wagon door latch.

Having a checkered history, my bird has what appears to be a 56 right rear quarter (brazed on 1/4” low at the tail light). The jamb is deeper, and there is a home made spacer to bring the striker...

Re: 1955 Ranch wagon with a 302 engine.

I think Paul’s right on a new thread. But I think the door mechanism is the same on all 55’s. I think 56 used a different (wider) mechanism on both the door and jamb as part of the safety package...

Re: Radial Tire Size for 55/56 Ford

I think the size question is answered, but I’ll throw in my experience. I’ve had great luck with Diamond Back tire, more modern high performance sizes. I put many miles on the Coker www, stock size...

Re: 1955/56 Ford Sedan Rear Window Defrost

If you google “rear window defroster” you’ll come up with some pictures. Most are little fan units but there one that’s and electric grid you stick on. I had one of those in the back window of a...

Half way down are some pictures still up from Ted Eaton. I think your right about the rectangular, I’d call the other one more square than round.

Re: 1960 wagon west

Scenery, road trip, and with a “new to you car” and adventure too. Doesn’t get any better than that. Congratulations.

Re: 6 volt to 12 Volt conversion

I’ve had good luck with Classic, but check the last comment.

Re: 6 volt to 12 Volt conversion

I wish I would have known that about the gauges when I went to 12 volts. I replaced the works with 56 units. On the other hand, my gauges were pretty faded. My 6 volt seat motors, window motors...

Re: 6 volt to 12 Volt conversion

The oil sender is an idiot light, isn’t it, so it doesn’t care. Change the bulb to 12v. Or, leave it if it’s on the 6volt drop resistor. The water temp needs to see only 6 volts, as does the gas...

Re: T85 transmission

The belts in the 55 bird were aftermarket. Back story is the car belonged to a fireman, his room mate owned an auto upholstery shop and drove a AA Fuel car. Probably explained the seatbelts and the...

Re: T85 transmission

I’m told they made a change in the ‘bird tunnel in 56, to accommodate the T-85. I didn’t know that, so I put one in my 55 bird in place of the Fordomatic. So it should fit in a full size car. The...

Re: Rear sway bar

I can’t help with what you’ve got, but Larry’s lists a 1”” rear bar for the full size ford. No picture unfortunately. But I know the Dana rear end from a 56 wagon is a bolt in for a 55-56...

Re: clutch problem in a '57 T-Bird

It’s been a long time, but my problem with half a bushing was very similar to yours. I know it’s a pain, but I’d focus on that. Mine had to do with the engine being slightly off center (to the pass...

Re: 56 stereo

I’ve had 4 custom autosounds over the years, two now. One got sold with the car, one failed early and the local dealer replaced it at a large discount. I find the LED readout difficult to see, and...

Re: Name of fitting?

This is a generic one I picked up out of a search. These require a control valve either at the heater or in line in the hose. I don’t know what trucks used, or how your’s is set up. I just googled...

Re: Muffler Selection

I’ve got a pair of Flowmaster on an OT 383. 10 years old, so probably the original series. They’re great. I put Hushpower mufflers on my ‘bird, and they were way too loud at WOT. I added...

Re: Window lift rollers

A few years back I replaced the metal rollers (badly worn, not reusable) in my 55 bird. Same rollers as manual, but mine are power windows. Replaced all the liners, glass, etc. and carefully...
