On thehamb someone suggested to try adjusting the vacuum brake by turning in ash bolt 1/2 turn at a time.
Thinking of trying that first as idles good. Can’t test drive till ties though.

No. Never timed with a light. No mark for TDC. Thought I had read somewhere to not hook up the vacuum brake but I cannot find that again, so wondering if those with the pertronix hook up vacuum to it...

Crab distributor with pertronix and correct coil. Vacuum brake hooked up to manifold vacuum. Edelbrock slingshot intake with dual 97's. Edelbrock heads... 6 volt pos ground/
Runs good, maybe a bit...

Yes the gauge is liquid filled but there is a small vent hole in rubber plug to vent it. I had also removed the plug while this was happening.
I was thinking the needle and seat may have stuck...

Solved. Friend or should I say "friend" had moved my parts around and switched the fuel pump pushrods so I ended up with the wrong one in the engine. Go figure.

Mechanical fuel pump
Mechanical pump is not pumping fuel. It is basically new. I also have electric airtex 6 volt pump that was used only when vehicle not used for awhile.
It all worked fine on original engine....

Paint removal without harming polished head
Picking up engine this week. Any good way to remove paint from the polished head without messing up the polished finish?

Yes inside of intake ports looks a lot like lifter valley!
Leakdown test was good. No valve leakage.
Compression test was a little low 75-85 PSI
