Re: Distributor Drive

Thanks. Been there. I'm coming around to putting a piece of metal in one of the slots to make it a tongue and carefully open up the hole in the head gasket to allow a sleeve to go through. I'm sure...

Re: Distributor Drive

I considered that but without a sleeve over the tongue/slot drive, the shafts would not stay centered and the hole in the head gasket is not big enough to allow a sleeve to pass through.

Re: Mitchell Overdrive - Shifter Modification

I think you are referring to a cable shift. They mount on the usual gear stick and ther eis no extra lever on the floor. Contact Mitchells about them. Have some $ ready!

Distributor Drive

Guys, I seek some info to confirm or otherwise what I have found. I took apart a going motor for inspection and decided to put it back together and run till it dies sometime later. I have no hope of...

Re: Drafty doors

Where ya gunna be? Wait a moment, it doesn't matter where. It'll be MUCH warmer than your place! There are places only 100 miles north of us where the temp has been in the high 110s, even 120F for...

Re: Drafty doors

Over the course of the past 90 years, the doors on most of our cars have been given a hard time. Most of mine also allow a draft. I buy "peel and stick" domestic weather strip from the local hardware...

Re: Matching photos, I think.....

That would indicate to me just the opposite. I think the picture was taken with a still camera. Film for those had sprocket holes along the side too and the camera could be help upright or on its...

Re: Front brake floater, Roadster

Ditto Purdy.
Werner, you need nothing more than what is shown but to get the most out of them And your brakes in general, make sure the whole system, especially your tracks and rollers are in good...

Re: Hole in water jacket

I see no reason not to rebuild that block if something as simple as a dab of RTV is enough to keep it going. Things are different over there but good blocks don't grow on trees here. I nearly cried...

Re: Front and Rear Spring Restoration

I have the spring leaves sand blasted, then I grind out the steps left by wear in the top of the leaves and taper the under sides of the ends. After that, prime them with as much graphite as I can...

Re: Matching photos, I think.....

Definately the same car. Apart from the things already mentioned, the same scratch on the side of the fuel tank and mark on the door are present in both photos.

Re: Replace early 28 AR starter

The reason I asked is one of the members here is coming to my place soon with his 1/2" starter which has been giving him trouble. I suspected the bendix all along and now wonder whether the problem...

Re: Replace early 28 AR starter

Is there a way to tell which 1/2" drive starter we have from the outside?

Re: Hole in water jacket

That would probably work but I went away from something as hard and perminent as that because the stud may have to be removed at some time in the future, like an engine rebuild.

Re: Head light focus with out lens?

Makes great sense to me. I once ended up doing things the other way 'round. I focused the light as best I could, then at some later date (for reasons I don't remember) I had the light apart. I...

Re: Hole in water jacket

Hmm, I bet you regret doing that!!
I'm sure others will come up with ideas too but the first thing I would try is as simple as putting a dab of RTV silcone on the thread. Clean it up first....

Re: Engine Water Jacket Cleaning

I use the dishwasher tablets to remove any traces of grease before adding vinegar (50-50 with water). The vinegar can't work if there is a greasy film over the rust and dishwasher tablets don't foam...

Re: Roadster Door Knob

I'm kinda with Bill. If there is nothing in the judging standards, it doesn't matter which you use - you won't lose points either way.

Re: Check your fan blades

I made a puller for the job. It's crude but effective. It also will pull the steering wheel. That tool from Brattons work well too.

Re: tell a Model A related story

They are a fun loving bird and as I said, they learn who and which animals in their area are to be avoided and which are OK. I've seen them bring their young to play with the same cat they played...
