Re: Having Fun With it?
Enjoy the challenges of rebuilding your Model A. Sometimes I wonder why we enjoy the headaches we create for ourselves trying to solve problems and make things work or fit.

Re: #1 plug question
Like the other said, but start with easiest first to rule out. Swap plug wires with one of the other cylinders. Inspect the Number one contact carefully. Play in the distributor shaft etc would seem...

Re: Analyze this . . .
In my opinion, if its running well maybe leave well enough alone. That last plugs look like you could end up too lean in a heart beat if you start leaning out the fuel/air mixture. However my...

Re: engine misses
Best to try to eliminate electrical before you start changing carb settings. To determine if the miss is only with one cylinder try disconnecting a plug and running the motor to see if you detect a...

Re: Oil for model a+ t
I agree, if so many people are using so many different grades with positive results then I think what you use is less important than keep the level up and keeping it clean. No comparisons to today's...

Re: Hi compression head and stock ignition
What sort of issues did you have? Asking because I have a FSI ignition and am planning to purchase a rebuilt motor with a high compression head. I didn't expect to have issues with the higher...

Re: My 1st decent drive of Model A and discussion
Let others chime in as I am far from an expert on these cars. My dealings with older cars and motorcycles is inspect, replace/repair what you are not sure about. I feel your pain as I sink more and...

Re: No Compression in 3 & 4 Cylinders
Definitely found your problem. While the head is off take it to a machine shop and have the surface milled. Probably cost $75-$100 but no point putting a warped head back on. New head gasket and...

Re: Need help near Atlanta diagnosing motor issue
Thanks for all the input. The ignition is a new FS Ignition for 12 volt negative ground. It comes with its own coil and I purchased their wire. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb using Synder's kit. GAV...

Re: no brake lights
I stand corrected. Thanks Y-Blockhead. I was just trying to deduct from the symptoms the original post said that they only worked when the headlights were on.

Re: Need help near Atlanta diagnosing motor issue
With the rubber stopper and holding it by hand after the engine had warmed up I was getting 55-60 on all the cylinders. But I don't have real confidence in this method. I am going to purchase an...

Re: 31 Carburetor Adjustment
We do this with our old Harleys checking for an intake leak. Spray a little WD40 near the manifold inlets while its running and see if you notice any change in rpm? Otherwise I think I would be...

Re: no brake lights
That does sound a bit tricky. You say the brake lights work properly if the tail lights and tail lights are on, but do not work at all if headlights and tail lights are not turned on. Sounds like the...

Need help near Atlanta diagnosing motor issue
New to Ford Model A's and older cars in general. Picked up a '31 model A based speedster that has a miss, and I am afraid its getting beyond my experience. Have ruled out fuel delivery and...
